Howard Gregory was born in Philadelphia, PA, and entered the US Army Feb. 14, 1942.  Basic training was at Camp Wheeler, GA.  He took basic airborne training at Fort Benning, GA, and made his first jump in June 1942.  He served in the 82nd ABN in WWII, serving in Africa, Sicily and Italy.  While at fort Bragg he became Light Heavyweight boxing champion.  His awards include Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and Parachute Badge.  He was discharged May 10, 1945 as a private.
