of SLAPPYBALL on the Web!

What is Slappyball?

Slappyball is the fastest growing sport in the world! Invented only 16 years ago by three high school students in western Kentucky, Slappyball has exploded onto the amateur sports scene. It is played regularly at the University of Kentucky in Lexington and hosts a large annual tournament each summer.

Who can play Slappyball?

You! Its simple rules and 2 person per team format allow Slappyball to be learned quickly and easily. Although some amount of physical fitness is required, intricate skills are not necessary to get started. Slappyball is suitable for men, women, and children.

What will I need to play?

The wonderful thing about Slappyball is the minimal amount of equipment required. Beginners will need only 8 field cones, a 6-inch diameter playground ball, and two midfield markers (frisbees work great). A 120’ x 60’ flat, grass-covered playing area is also required.

How do I become involved?

If you live in the central Kentucky area, you can join the Slappyball Club. Exhibition games are held on UK’s campus every Wednesday night during the summer and fall. Newcomers interested in playing, or even just observing, are welcome! But I must warn you: if you play once, you will become addicted…

If you live outside of this area, you should find some friends and start your own Slappyball club. You will need to find at least three other people to begin playing—all of the rules, regulations, and equipment specifications can be found on this site. By starting your own club, you will be recognized as an official charter member of the national Slappyball organization that is currently being formed. In addition, you will be eligible to participate in all nationally and locally sponsored tournaments.

If you are interested in starting your own club or locating and joining an existing club in your local area, please contact the Slappyball Club for assistance. If you would simply like to play or watch others playing, contact the Slappyball Club and let them know that you will be in Lexington. Arrangements for an exhibition can be made.

What does the future hold for Slappyball?

Slappyball has a bright and promising future. In addition to this web page, plans for a highlight/how-to video, a national organization, a rules brochure, and more annual tournaments are currently being pursued. In addition, regional clubs are being formed at various sites around the country.

After 16 years of growth and expansion, Slappyball is now poised to become the "sport of the new millenium!"
