ANSWER TO BADFINGER ODD TRIVIA # 1
The Very Best of Badfinger After 11 clues someone finally stepped up with a correct answer! Doug Stalnaker of Woodstock, Virginia submitted the winning entry shortly after the July 10th clues were posted. According to the book, "Rocks Movers and Shakers" written by Dafydd Rees and Luke Crampton:

"(1972) Al Kooper (ex-Blood, Sweat & Tears) is touring with Badfinger and looking for suitable talent for his new label Sounds of the South, marketed by MCA, when he spots the group playing at Funocchio's bar in Atlanta, GA. Kooper is immediately impressed by Skynyrds's "Dixie rock" style, and signs the band."

The band Kooper discovered while touring with Badfinger was Lynyrd Skynyrd. Badfinger were in Georgia in early August 1972 and this was most likely the time Kooper spotted the band. Similar information to this (including the Badfinger reference) appears on various Lynyrd Skynyrd websites.

Thus if there was no "Knocking Down Our Home", there may never have been a "Sweet Home Alabama" If there was no line, "you don't need a gun or a knife", there may never have been a "Saturday Night Special" If there was no "Name of the Game", there may never have been a "What's Your Name" If there was no Badfinger (some think of it as the middle finger) there may never have been a "Free Bird" The ramifications are endless....
