Against Ecumenism
Letter to Pope John Paul II, 1 February 1992
Your Holiness:
Ecumenism as a "journey to unity" is a nice slogan, but the ways and methods and interpretations are doubtful to me. Why? Because some points are in complete contradiction to what the Roman Catholic Church has taught and believed for two thousand years. The Catholic Church has always taught that she is the true church the only true church; this meant that all other religions are false. This, in turn, implied that true Christian unity would be achieved only when all men accepted the true faith and the true Church: "one flock, one shepherd."
Today, in the name of "unity," the Catholic Church embraces Lutherans, Calvinists, Masons, and even pagans (e.g., the notorious Assisi gathering). There is contradiction and lack of logic in the call for "unity" with those once called heretics and schismatics! The only ones excluded from today's "catholic" ecumenism are the traditionalist followers of Archbishop Marcel Lefebvre! Ironically, Archbishop Lefebvre was almost alone in pointing out that ecumenism, as understood and practiced today, completely eliminates the rationale for all missionary activity.
Perhaps in the name of ecumenism, six Protestant ministers were allowed to collaborate in making up the New Mass. Concerning the New Mass, Archbishop Bugnini, its chief author and later exposed as a Mason, said: "a fundamental revision... a total change... a new creation." One of those Protestant ministers said that a fruit of the New Mass "will perhaps be that the non-Catholic communities will be able to celebrate the Lord's Supper using the same prayers as the Catholic Church."
While Catholicism thus protestantized itself, has a single Protestant sect changed its beliefs, practices, and attitudes in order to became more like the old Roman Catholic Church? Of course, not! In the name of "unity," the Catholic Church has thrown away two thousand years of tradition, with nothing to show for it, absolutely nothing except the decline of Catholic belief and practice among those still calling themselves Catholics....
Almighty God, You promised St. Peter that he would be the Rock on which His Church would be built and that not even hell would prevail against it. Forgive us! Help us!
Faithfully yours,
Waclaw Bakierowski.
