"Clinton leading us on road to disaster"
(Letter as printed in the Holland Sentinel, 2 March 1998)
At the wedding feast at Cana, Jesus Christ turned water into wine. Listening to the State of the Union speech, I got the impression that Bill Clinton proposes to work a similar miracle, by using a thimbleful of budget surplus to pay for a barrelful of new domestic programs. If the president is such a worker of miracles, why does he not first replenish the Social Security "trust fund" with the money that has been stolen from it by previous administrations and Congresses? For that matter, why does he not restore to the taxpayers all those tax dollars which the government has spent subsidizing welfare queens, favored banks and corporations, and a host of left-liberal foundations and pressure groups?
Bill Clinton told us a bold-faced lie when he said we are militarily strong. Our military has been overused, underfunded, feminized, homosexualized, and transformed into a model of "political correctness." It is now little good for anything other than "peacekeeping".... [Edited from the original letter was a point that Clinton was intending to proceed with nuclear disarmament while Russia was not, and the treasonous nature of the surrender of American sovereignty to "multilateral institutions."]
All of this, far more than "Monicagate," is the reason why Congress should go ahead with Bill Clinton's impeachment. I suspect that Al Gore is going to be as much a big spender and disarmer as Clinton. Even so, we have no choice other than to play the game to its end. If the Republicans do nothing, the responsibility they will bear for our country's disaster will be akin to the blame borne by those Germans who first voted for Hitler and then "just followed orders."
