Americans are "fifth column of Russian offensive"
[Letter submitted to the Holland Sentinel, 3 February 1982; cc: Rep. Guy Vander Jagt]

To the Editor:

My previous Readertorial showed the same American policy towards communism under Democratic and Republican Presidents for 37 years. Communists and their "troubadours" were allowed to infiltrate the most sensitive positions in our government and to change our laws, so that, today, we are stymied in our fight against communism. (Applicants for jobs in the Federal Civil Service cannot be asked if they are, or have been, members of subversive organizations!)

Communists influence every sphere of our lives, and in our schools they work to blind our youth to the danger of communism, causing demonstrations against the military draft, nuclear power, etc., in America as well as Europe. All demonstrations have one thing in common: Against America! Why do those protesters not demonstrate against the same things in Russia? Many Americans do not realize that communists manipulate them and that they are the fifth column of the Russian offensive.

Recently, in Brussels, Secretary of State Haig pointed his finger at newsmen and asked the crucial question: Are you with us or against us? Meaning: Are you with America or for Russia? Every American should ask himself that question: Am I for America or Russia? If you are for Russia, you are a traitor. If you are for America, point your finger at government employees, senators, congressmen, news media, and professors, and ask: Are you for America or Russia?

Many Americans are voting traditionally straight Republican or Democratic, not caring how their candidates vote in the Congress and Senate. You are proud Americans — for religion, for a strong defense, against communism — and you may be very surprised to learn that some senators and congressmen vote contrary to your beliefs.

Russia today represents such a might because past governments, without your knowledge and against your will, gave almost a billion people into communist enslavement and then supported communists all over the world with billions of your tax dollars, grain, computers, etc. Today you have nothing else to give but your freedom and America itself. Therefore, you must choose now between a strong America and Russian slavery. If you want to defend your country, you must request your government to:

Do your part — get involved!
