Enemy is Communism and liberalism clothed in sheepskin
[Letter to President Reagan, 6 June 1983; later published in the Holland Sentinel]
Sir:
Upon my arrival in the USA in 1952 as a political refugee (a so-called "displaced person"), I was assured by all my good American neighbors and co-workers that there are no Communists in America. However, over the years I observed that a number of people spoke like Communists, followed the Communist line, and worked, as a matter of fact, toward a one-world (Communist) government. In America, those people are officially called liberals. I ask, with such "friends," who needs enemies?
As in religion, so in politics, you must identify your enemy. It is necessary to know who is your enemy and why you are fighting him. Our enemy today is Communism and Liberalism clothed in sheepskin.
Liberals are active and noisy. They like to call upon the Constitution to give legitimacy to their destructive work. In fact, however, they are against everything which made this country great and strong and even against the Constitution itself. An outstanding job of exposing liberalism and showing it for what it is was done by James Burnham in Suicide of the West, where he demonstrated that liberalism is not so much a coherent ideology as a way of thinking and a rationalization for the decline and destruction of the United States and of our Western civilization.
A typical example is the liberal attitude toward obnoxious foreign governments: vicious attacks on right-wing governments and toleration and apology for left-wing governments. Another example: liberals are idealistic and sentimental nature-lovers when it comes to four-legged, winged, and swimming creatures, but this idealism and sentimentality stops short of unborn human creatures.
Nature abhors a vacuum. If liberals bring about the destruction of our Western civilization, what kind of replacement do they propose? Liberalism and Communism are both of the left. If not for their ideological incoherence, many liberals would be outright Communists. The goals they seek are often identical to Communist goals. Their destructive activities weaken the West and pave the road for Communism. Should not liberalism be called tantamount to Communism? You answer for yourself.
Do you care? Do you care enough, for the sake of America?!
Yours in the name of Freedom for Poland, America, and the World,
Waclaw Bakierowski, P.R., K.W.
