Will you parrot Carter's treasonous party line before Congress?
[Letter to Gen. David C. Jones, USAF, Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff, 9 July 1979]

Dear General:

You cannot fail to be fully aware of the magnitude of the Soviet military threat to the United States, whose uniform you have worn throughout your career. Very shortly, Mr. Carter will send you to the Hill to testify on behalf of SALT, to tell the Senate and the American people that our defenses are adequate, and to lend the prestige of a man in uniform to the treasonous handiwork of Messrs. Carter, Vance, and Warnke. What will you do, General?

There have already been complaints from the Hill about the "gelded generals" who follow their orders to lie about their true opinions and who give the Administration's "party line" to Congress. I regret to say that I sympathize with those complaints; General Singlaub has been the exception which proves the rule. Now, when the clock stands at five minutes to midnight, is not the time for you to act on the basis of a narrow and legalistic interpretation of your duty. Your oath is not to the Peanut, your oath is to your country, which is in mortal danger; your duty is to your country; your duty is to tell the truth.

On your uniform you wear proof of the courage which you have shown on the battlefield and which has helped bring you to your current position of trust. If, during the next few months, you show a civil courage equivalent to the physical courage you have already shown, you will truly deserve the respect of your countrymen.

During World War II, I was an officer of the Polish Home Army and participated in the Warsaw Insurrection. Our work was wasted by Mr. Roosevelt, who sold Poland to Russia at Yalta. I knew what Russian occupation would be like and I did not return to Poland. Today, I see America, my adoptive country and my son's country, being sold to Russia by our unilateral disarmers. Please, General, do not be party by your silence to this betrayal.

Sincerely yours,
Waclaw Bakierowski.
