Democrats, Republicans: One's as bad as the other
[Letter to the Washington Times, submitted 19 April 1995]

Sir:

I am tired of the promises and "achievements" of the Democrats. The only promise a Democratic liberal will ever keep is his promise to raise our taxes. The "achievements" of about two generations of liberal domination include the destruction of the American family, the ruin of our schools, the legalization of child murder (i.e., abortion), a crime rate much higher than in Dodge City in the days of Marshal Dillon, spending policies which have put the country on a fast track to bankruptcy, and the ruin of the military at the precise time when we are seeing a revival of Russian aggressiveness.

As for the Republicans, I am underwhelmed, but not surprised. Why underwhelmed? In the face of the moral, political, social, and economic catastrophe facing the country, even that famous Contract [with America] amounted to no more than a promise to rearrange the deck chairs on the Titanic. As the fate of the balanced budget amendment and of term limits showed, the Republican Congressional majority cannot even do that much. [Webmaster's note: Mr. Bakierowski's point is even more amply illustrated in the Republican leadership's capitulation in regard to the government shutdown that occurred the following Christmastide.] But why am I not surprised? Therein hangs the tale.

Administrations come and go, but not much changes. Republican and Democratic presidents alike staff their administrations with One World Government advocates from the CFR and the Trilaterals. Nixon gave us wage and price controls and racial quotas. Reagan, though much to be praised for helping to bring down the Soviet empire, never even tried to fulfill his promise to abolish the Departments of Education and Energy. Bush, the quintessential Rockefeller Republican, gave us higher taxes, more Big Government, and the start of the "cultural diversity" mania. [Webmaster's note: More recent history proves — like father, like son.] Republican and Democratic nominees to the Supreme Court are barely distinguishable. Bob Dole remains the consummate professional politician, impervious to the reality outside the Washington Beltway, while Newt Gingrich wants us to follow the amoral fantasies of the Tofflers into a brave new world.

Time is running out. In a few years, we will be hit simultaneously by a full-scale comeback of Russian imperialism, by the inability of the government to pay its obligations, and by a social collapse resulting from our increasing illegitimacy rate. These are not problems with which we will be able to deal, by the proverbial "seat of the pants," when they occur. Though it is probably already too late to prevent a crash, there may still be time to find ways to cushion the impact. Within a few years, it will be too late even for that. We cannot wait for the next election, and the next election, and then the election after that.

Unless the Republicans and the Democrats alike give up their respective liberalisms, their petty partisan squabbles, their habits of "business as usual," and their fear both of facing and speaking the truth, the handwriting is on the wall, as at Balshazzar's feast. In the name of God and country, you fools, wake up and, for once, do the right thing for America. In God's name, finally do the right thing for your countrymen.

Sincerely yours, Waclaw Bakierowski.
