Letter to President George W. Bush (19 March 2001)

Mr. President:

Congratulations on winning the election. As you settle into your duties, I urge you to remember that three things are said to have made this country great: God, guns, and guts. Permit me, please, to offer my thoughts and comments under those three headings.

By our abysmal level of public and private morality, we are, as a country, courting God's just wrath. Do not allow our tax dollars to subsidize blasphemous and pornographic "art" and to pay the educational establishment to poison their charges with "self-esteem" and "values clarification." Do appoint judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade, who will come down hard on crime, who will refuse to push a liberal and secular humanist agenda from the bench, and — perhaps above all — who have the personal integrity not to sell out after they are confirmed.

"Si vis pacem, para bellum." If you want peace, prepare for war. We face a Russia which is still armed with nuclear weapons and which still cherishes Peter the Great's ambitions, a China which hopes to make its own bid for world power, and a host of "dirtball" regimes. To oppose them, we have a military which is over-extended, armed with decaying equipment, demoralized by "political correctness," and led not by warriors, but by self-seeking bureaucrats in uniform. No wonder our best men — and I do mean men — are leaving! So, yes, do deploy a National Missile Defense, do rebuild our technical capabilities, and do restore a balance between commitments and capabilities. At the same time, however, get the sodomites out of the barracks, the bimbos off of our ships, and the butt-kissing careerist cowards out of the officer corps.

You will accomplish nothing without courage: the intellectual courage to see things as they are and the moral courage to confront them without abandoning principle. Face it: the unions, the media, the schools, the legal profession and the courts, the mainstream churches, and the Democratic Party — to say nothing of the Republican "moderates" — are controlled by people or groups who hate all the good things that this country has ever stood for, who hold the same basic world-view as did the Communists, and who hope to create a post-Christian One World Government. If you trust them, they will roll you. If you compromise with them, they will co-opt you. You must have the courage not only to use your veto, but also to make your case clearly and without apology directly to the American people. If you do that and fail, at least you will have done your best. If you do not do it, however, you will certainly fail.

May God bless you and may He bless America.

Respectfully yours, Waclaw Bakierowski.
