Letter to the National Conference of Catholic Bishops
[c/o Archbishop John Roach, St. Paul, Minn.; Submitted 24 March 1983]

Gentlemen:

It happened many years ago in Poland during the time of the German occupation in World War II. Nowhere, somewhere, in the wild Polish forest, was a group of Polish partisan soldiers. It was Sunday. A priest from a neighboring village church celebrated Mass on a big tree stump. Suddenly, the clearing, in which Mass was said, was surrounded by German soldiers. Shooting started, blood ran, and many partisans died — but the priest said Mass to the end — to the end he served God and those Polish soldiers.

Such and similar incidents have many times been repeated in Polish history (Prior Kordecki, Father Skorupka, Father Kolbe, and others). And today's clergy in Poland continues to fight, in the name of Christianity and in the service of God, against the oppression by the atheistic Communists, by morally supporting the nation.

I mentioned the above incident because I am provoked by the bishop from Washington, D.C. [then Archbishop James (later Cardinal) Hickey - Webmaster], who opposes military help to El Salvador (but is probably for the nuclear freeze), thus serving Mr. Andropov's "Disinformation" programmes. And I was provoked by the bishop from Washington State [possibly Archbishop Hunthausen of Seattle? - Webmaster], who served Mr. Andropov when he took part in a demonstration against American defense. (The particular subject at that occasion was U.S. nuclear submarines.) And I am provoked by the Catholic nun who is willing to serve the tax-money-financed abortion programme in the State of Michigan. And I am provoked by various other representatives of the Catholic Church in America who, through their sometimes really peculiar interpretation of the Christian/ Catholic religion and service to God, commit treason to our country. With their eagerness to disarm America, militarily and morally, they make it easy for atheist Communists to take over. They probably calculate that God will forgive them because, as it is written, they do not know what they do.

Can those "holy" people not comprehend that, if they would try to promote such ideas in the Soviet Union, they would finish their living days in Kolyma?

Why do those "holy" people not remember Christ's lesson to give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, and to God what belongs to God? They fail in giving to God what they should, namely by calling on our President to liberate, in the name of Christianity, those 130 million prosecuted Christians in Eastern Europe, who were committed by America in Yalta into communist slavery; instead, they are involved in political, military, and defense matters, which are strictly the affairs of our President and Government.

Yours in the name of Freedom for Poland, America, and the World,
Waclaw Bakierowski, K.O.P.R.
