Singing Comrade Brezhnev's tune on the "nuclear freeze"
[Letter submitted to Sen. Edward Kennedy, 25 March 1982]

Senator:

I am writing to you as an American citizen.

Some time ago I read somewhere that you, after 30 years or so of marriage, applied for an annulment because you had the Presidency on your mind.... I did not take that seriously because of your "unfortunate swim in Chappaquiddick Bay," among other things!...

But, now again you are in the news! I read that you initiated in America the "Nuclear Weapons Freeze" according to "comrade" Brezhnev's tune — which is in direct opposition to our President — and which would lock America into an inferior position as compared to Russia. Your present efforts can only be compared to your previous support of the SALT II discussions, and SALT II was overwhelmingly rejected for the very same reason. I am stunned!...

I know that you have the sick ambition to become President.... I also know that Russia, through their fifth column, supports any American running for the Presidency who is willing to cooperate with Russia.... Is that, in fact, your reason for your initiative and support of the nuclear weapons freeze?... Is is possible that you, a U.S. Senator under oath to be loyal to America, are ready to bargain with America's safety just to fulfill your unhealthy ambition to become President? Do you not realize that this would be treason?...

During the German occupation in Poland we had a Polish underground government. In a case of cooperation with the enemy, there would have been an underground court decision to "execute him for treason!" How lucky you are ... and how bad for America ... that freedom and liberty in America tolerate people like you, and McGovern, and Church, and others who obviously do not serve American but the enemy's interest (for personal ambitions?). It is indeed very unfortunate that there are so many American idiots (manipulated by Russian communists) who vote for you!

Yours very truly,
Waclaw Bakierowski.
