A Cross-Eyed Look:
Pyrrhic Victory in Iraq (27 April 1991)
[Written as an open letter; recipients unknown]
Militarily and politically, our victorious war against Iraq was stopped too soon. Hussein (Hitler) was left with much of his Republican Guards (SS Stormtroopers) completely unscathed!
Having happily signed the cease-fire agreement, Hussein has been using the military forces which we left him (and also, allegedly, gas) to murder the Iraqi Shiites in the south and the Kurds in the north. Our "victorious" Mr. Bush gave an outspoken speech, threatening Hussein and wagging his finger at him. Hussein reacted immediately: he gave Mr. Bush his finger and accelerated his offensive against the Kurds!!!
Today's murder of the Kurds and the Shiites is because of nothing except the untimely end of the war. Was that merely an inexcusable military action? Or, worse, was there method in this madness?
The matter should be examined by a special commission. Who really stopped the war before it was truly won? Was it General Schwarzkopf? I do not believe it. Or was it that great politician and strategist, Mr. Bush? Or was it perhaps Mr. Bush's friend, Mikhail Gorbachev, who persuaded Mr. Bush to save his old ally, Hussein? The American people have the right to find out who and what was behind the irresponsible decision to end the war and just how Mr. Bush's "holy war" for "justice and liberty" has become a catastrophe for so many, especially because our country bears moral responsibility for the deadly consequences which the war has had for thousands of Kurds and Shiites.
If the investigation shows that Mr. Bush was at fault, perhaps we could impeach him and replace him with Mrs. Bush, who reportedly expressed the opinion that Hussein should be hanged! That would kill Mr. Bush's "splendid" idea of giving Hussein free passage to a neutral (Communist?) country, where Hussein could evade his responsibility for what he has done and could spend the billions of dollars which he has stolen from his people and stashed in numerous banks, including American banks! (What about the reparations which Iraq was supposed to pay?)
And if Mr. Bush falls into disgrace, perhaps the name of General Schwarzkopf might appear on the next presidential ballot. I believe that the general will always remain a stout defender of this country and of our Constitution and will not become an apostle or salesman for that "new world order," that bastard child spawned by the CFR, the Trilaterals, the international banks, and Communist Russia!
A concerned American,
Waclaw Bakierowski.
P.S. In case Mr. Bush proves to be still "available" for re-election in 1992, I already plan to vote for Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck!
