New and Perverse Concepts of "Freedom"
(Letter submitted to the Holland Sentinel, 28 December 1992)
Our national anthem calls America the "land of the free," but the traditional understanding of freedom is being replaced by a new concept.
A man was secure in his property and the fruits of his labor. With what he earned, he saw to his own and his family's material wants. Today, by the time federal, state, and local taxes are added up, the average American is a "tax serf" who has surrendered half his income to the government.
A man had the right to own and use firearms to defend himself, his family, and his property against criminals. In many localities today, the law-abiding citizen who owns a gun has been declared a criminal, while murderers, rapists, and robbers often escape punishment altogether.
A man was able publicly to profess and practice his religion and to raise his children to fear God and obey Him. If he held public office, he knew that the "so help me God" of his oath meant that his primary duty, even in political matters, was to God. Today, under the guise of "separation of church and state," our courts and government have turned us into an atheist state and our schools into academies of immorality.
And here comes "President Hillary," with her husband, Bill. Taxes will go up to pay for their campaign promises. Crime will be an excuse for firearms confiscation. The new Administration will support pro-abortion and pro-homosexual laws completely opposed to the Bible, while our public schools redouble their campaign to corrupt our children with sex education, "values clarification," and "multiculturalism." If you object too loudly, new laws may allow the government to take your children and prosecute you for "hate crimes."
So what do we get in exchange for our ancient liberties? The freedom to watch degrading entertainments on TV, to copulate like bunnies and murder the resulting children, and to practice "political correctness." The new ideal is slavery of the mind, slavery of the will, and liberation of the gonads.
