The streets of New Orleans are filled with a montage of unusual and amazing creatures. The colors and sounds bring you into a world you would never have known existed outside the imagination of a child. However, there is a darker side to this fairyland. There are shadows in New Orleans that have a life of their own and the legends that walk these streets are not all here to save us. Back alleys and cemeteries have as much a reputation as the carnivals and night clubs do. New Orleans is a world unto itself that comes to life when the sun goes down.

Maybe that’s why the vampires of the Camarilla fight so hard to keep it. For several years there has been an unseen enemy that had threatened to remove the Elders from power. Although this is no easy task, this force seems to know just where to strike to make things hell for un-life in the city. Many of the younger kindred have fled knowing that if the Elders are scared, and believe me they are, there is something to be scared of. Still they hold on. The resources are too valuable and there is too much pride to let go.

I these nights, the air is ripe with secrets and whispers of mystical creatures drawing both adventurous mortals, vampires, and less common things to its core. The French Quarter has never been as energized as it is now. All its dark secrets ready to be revealed, giving great reward to some and death and pain to others. Life and death are relative. The world down here is something that escapes all description. The only way to find out what is really going on is to dive in. Are you ready?

Welcome to Smoke and Mirrors or, as we call it, SnM. We are a Vampire LARP game and we meet in a Chicago suburb called Evanston two Saturday nights each month at about 7p. We have both in-character and out-of-character e-mails lists that we use for our game. The in-character list is used primarily to run downtime scenes between player characters although we do have a couple of players that post journal-type scenes to the list as well. This list is a good way to get a feel for the type of game we try to run.

Our out-of-character list is much less used but serves as a channel for our players to communicate with each other even when they haven't been given exact e-mail addresses.

Feel free to subscribe to either list by using the forms below. As long as people aren't disruptive, we have an open policy for these lists and will allow any to join. Thank you for your interest in our game.

Important Information for Minors and Parents

Smoke and Mirrors is an improvisational theater group that sometimes deals with adult themes and language and is not suitable for children. All minors interested in taking part in Smoke and Mirrors activities must present the StoryTellers a Parental Consent Form signed by their parent or legal guardian before they are allowed to play.

Due to the times that we play, parents should be aware that their children will be out past normal curfew. However, according to our understanding of Evanston Law, they will be exempt from this statute during the time that they are physically present at a Smoke and Mirrors event as well as their trip home (assuming they go directly to their homes).
