THE COMET HAS LANDED!!!

Matt's new custom Nechville Comet arrived in Portland during the RiverCity Bluegrass Festival and with it Matt became an official endorser on Tom Nechville's banjos.

In addition to Nechville's Heli-Mount design,  Matt's Nechville Comet features a full-length fifth string, a radiused fingerboard, and galaxy inlay.

Luke Dewhirst from the band Dewgrass cites Matt as one of his influences. Luke learned Matt's song "Tillamook Burn" which Matt and Luke performed together at light speed igniting the audience at Moograss in September 2007

Jeff Wins Band Contest

Jeff assembled the winning band for a contest at Adventure Bluegrass in Stevenson, WA. July 2007.  Jeff has family with property bordering  the fairgrounds at Stevenson and it has become something of a family reunion when the festival rolls around. This year, Jeff decided to take some of the family and friends and put a group together for the contest. I wasn't too surprised when I'd heard they'd won, but now I wonder if they have any plans for the future...

OPB and Me

Oregon Art Beat (OPB-TV, Channel 10 in Portland) kicked off its '06 -'07 season with a segment they did on Mollybloom.   I (Matt) was  in the band at the time so you can catch me in that segment which coincided with release of MB3. A video from the night of the taping has been available at the OPB website, though it will disappear at some point.

Check out a sample of the Mollybloom
video of on the OPB website.

Be sure to check out Oregon Art Beat’s page at
www.opb.org/programs/artbeat/

The taping for Art Beat, as well as the MB3 CD release, happened at the Mount Angel Peforming Arts Center. I've had the opportunity to play there in a couple of different bands. It's easily one of my favorite venues.
Here's an mp3 sample from one of those nights:

Annie Staninec

I have to thank the remarkable bluegrass/gypsy-jazz fiddle player Annie Staninec for rekindling my interest in playing music with just fiddle and banjo (even before I heard Tom Adams and Mike Clevland do it).

More about Annie can be found at http://www.lostcoastbluegrass.net/

The Contest

I picked this up somewhere along the way

Thank you to Fran Kent for backing me on guitar in the competition. Among other things, Fran engineered, mixed, and produced MB3. She also produced and wrote much of the material for Everything's G.

As always, many thanks to Ken Cartwright for hosting the Oregon State Instrument competitions
