He served in Civil War as General Sherman's personal bodyguard during the march through Georgia to the sea. He homesteaded in Stafford, Kansas and resided there, having moved in spring of 1880. This is where his wife Minnie died leaving him on his claim alone with a family of small children.

This information is gleaned (as much of the above information) from Naomi's diaries. My understanding of Helen Mareen may not be correct, so read this with a caution (as always.)

Annie in Wm and Hattie Pamenters household in 1880. There is an obit for Annie Deselms in the Wood Co Sentinel on May 14, 1885 on page 3, col. 4. Makes me wonder about the discrepancy of date.
