Formation of Kanawha County and Its Offices on October 5, 1789.
At a court held for Kanawha County October 6, 1789: Ordered that William Hughes, be appointed constable in the bounds of Captian John Morris's company, Thomas Asberry on Cole River and Abraham Baker at Clendenin's station.
Feb 1790 court mentioned William Boggs, Thomas Lewis and William Hughes.

Court held for Kanawha County October 7, 1793. Ordered that Jonathan Windsor, Allen RIne, and Joseph Climer, being first duly sworn, etc. before a Justice of the Peace do appraise the slaves (if any) and the personal estate of Rowland Wheeler and return appraisement to next court.
The last will and testament of Thomas Hughes dec'd was proved by the oath of Edward Hughes and Robert Hughes two of the executors therein named the same is ordered to be recorded, and on motion of Edward Hughes, one of the Ex'ors therein named (etc) certificate is granted for obtaining a probate thereof in due form, Robert Hughes the other executor named in the said will having refused to serve.

May 1, 1797 ordered that Joel Buffington, WIlliam Buffington, Elijah and Samuel Tanner be appointed to view Roads from the banks of the Ohio at Belville out to WIlliam Engles, and Joel Downings inhabitants settled and from Belville and that athey make report of the conveniences and inconveniences thereof to the next court.

Ordered that the Surveyor of this County meet the Surveyor of Wood County & Proceed to run the dividing Line Between said COunties & make return thereof according to Law.
Ordered that Joseph Parsins Joseph Smith Joseph Cox & Jesse Carpenter or any three thereof Proceed to view & mark a way for a Road from Rights Mill on Mill Creek to meet a Road which is Opened from Belville down the dividing line of Kanawha & Wood counties & make report thereof according to law.
Ordered that John Henderson Benjamin Johnson & William Hall proceed to view and make a way for a Road from Samuel Henderson, at the mouth of Kanawha River, to Zachariah Bayans on Ohio river & make report thereof to the next Court.

Present Leonard Morris, George Alderson, John Rousch, and Obediah Fuqua Gentlemen
A commission from under the hand of his Excellency James Monroe Esquire Governor of Virginia with the seal of the said COmmonwealth thereto affixed appointing William Morris Senr. Gentleman a Sheriff for the County of Kanawha who thereupon came into Court and took the oath prescribed by Law and together with Stephen Teaze, Nehemiah Wood, Allyn Prior, John Reynolds, Robert McKee & Fleming Cobb, his securities entered into and acknowledged their bond in the Panelty of Thirty thousand Dollars condition_according to Law, Likewise two other bonds in the Penalty of Two thousand Dollars each conditon _ as the Law directs whereupon the said William Morris Senr is made Sheriff of this County.
On the motion of William Morris Sheriff of this County Carroll Morris is appointed his Deputy whereupon the said Carroll Morris came into Court and took the Oath prescribed by Law.
Isaac Robinson and William Bridges persons appointed to view a way for a Road from Point Pleasant to Rights Mill, who made their Report in those wors (Viz) That a good way may be had, by crossing Crooked Creek at Captain John V Bebber's and passing WIlliam Allen and from thence, over the three Mile, thence up tht same, to go out at the left hand fork, of the said Creeek, thence up the same to tkae the Dividing Ridge Between Tumblestons Run and the ten Mile Creek, to the fork of little Mile Creek up the left hand fork of the same, taking the Dividing Ridge; between little Mill Creek, and Big Mill Creek, and down to Rites Mill, and suppose the distance not more than Sixteen miles. On Consideration whereof It is Ordered that the Road so laid off be established. Whereupon Allyn Prior is appointed Surveyor of the same. And It is Ordered that the Male labouring Tithables from Point Pleasant, up the Ohio to the ten Mile Creek, & up the Kanawha River, on both sides thereof to Rock Castle, do attend & Assist the said Surveyor in Clearing & reparing the said Road when thereinto required.
Joseph Parson, Joseph Smith, & Joseph Cox, persons appointed to view a way for a Road from Rights Mill, to meet the Road from Belville at the County Line, made their report in these words (Viz) That on the Twenty eightth Day of Sept., review the Road which will cross big and little Sandy Creeek, about four miles up from their mouth to the line between said Counties. Whereupon William Parsons is appointed Surveyor, etc.
A Deed of Trust from Philip Hall to Thomas Bails and Lewis Tackett was Presented in COurt etc. continued for further Proof.
A Deed from Rezin Beall to John Beall was presented in Court. Certified by John Read Magindes Junr. Clerk of the Court of Prince George County & State of Maryland, which this Court- Sufficient Testimorny & the same is ordered to be recorded.
A Deed Joshua Fry & Peachey his wife to Jeremiah ward was presented in Court etc & same is Ordered recorded.
Ordered Frances Boggs, Samuel Hutchinson, & James Maze be appointed to view a way for a road from the dividing waters between Peters Creek & Mumbletipegg to the widow Maze in Strouds Coutny & make report thereof to the next Court.

14 July 1803. This day Thomas Buffington, came into Court, executed a Bond for keeping a Ferry across Guyandott and Ohio according to Law, & It is ordered that he have one Tithable exempted from County & Parish Levy to keep said Ferry.
14 Sept 1803 On motion of the record Edward Hughes producing credentials of his regular commission with the Baptist Church leave is granted him to celebrate the rites of matrimony between persons properly applying in the county.
