It was fun finding Barber and Elizabeth LEWIS. There aren't too many guys named Barber Lewis so as someone who looks for Smiths, Jones and Coxes this was a wonderful person to look for. It was a case of children being named by the text book. And so made a guess at Barber and Elizabeth's name and then looked for a couple with that name. It doesn't usually work out that easy, even though we have all seen those probable naming charts. The number of actual examples where the naming patterns have proven true is similar to the odds of winning the Florida lottery from my experience, and I still go to work everyday.
Jason and Lydia named their first son Thomas Barber DeSellem and their first daughter was named Martha Elizabeth.
The known parents of Jason were Thomas and Martha. I hoped that the parents of Lydia were Barber and Elizabeth.
I don't know if they are beyond a shadow of a doubt, but looking in the census for Ottawa County OH in 1840 there was a Barber Lewis. He died in 1850 and I found him in the Mortality Chart so he missed the first every name census of the United States, but there was Elizabeth in the county with several older children. Since the children were said to be born in New Jersey and the family was in Huron County by 1830, fairly easy to pinpoint when they came to the old Northwest.
Not so easy to learn where they came from in New Jersey.
This is a developing story..... does anybody have a little Barber Lewis from New Jersey who they lose in the late 1820's. Here he is!
