Wenatchee

Wenatchee is a rescue boy. He came to live with us on December 7th, 2003. We weren't actively looking for another Siberian but our pack of girls were getting some serious age on them and it was always on our mind that we would be seeing the first of them to the Bridge in two or three years, if not sooner. It would be nice to have a young dog to help us through those hard days. Our other rescue, Magnum, who was put to sleep just five months earlier had been a wonderful ambassador for rescues and for male dogs. We had only had females before Magnum. So when a friend who fosters dogs sent an e-mail about "Tekoe" we were intrigued. Tekoe's first name was "Demon" so perhaps he was the result of the heightened interest in Siberians that the movie "Snow Dogs" unfortunately inspired. His first owner got rid of him when his fiancee objected to the dog. He gave him to a family with a young boy but the boy didn't like the dog so Demon lived on a tether in the back yard. Finally the second owners turned him over to the Seattle Purebred Dog Rescue. He went into one foster home and finally to my friend's place in Plain, Washington, a small valley tucked into the northern Cascades, in the Wenatchee National Forest. She renamed him "Tekoe" simply to get rid of the name "Demon."

When I received the e-mail from my friend telling me about the new arrival I was intrigued. I knew she wouldn't praise the dog if he weren't pretty special. I found several pictures of him on PetFinders.com and he was a stunning boy: dark copper red with a splash coat. I've always loved the great variety of coat colors that Siberians can have and here was a particularly interesting one. The red and white coat combined with blue eyes rimmed by dark liver-colored liner makes a beautiful combination.

Wenatchee was born on November 1, 2002. He is still just a big puppy, full of energy and curiosity.
