Garman’s Cemetery is located on Haldeman’s Island, Reed Township, Dauphin Co., PA.
The island is to the north of the Clark’s Ferry Bridge in the Susquehanna River. There is a bridge to access the island, but it is private and trespassing is prohibited. Having Garman relatives in my family line, the Bates family, I wanted to see who might be buried there. I made contact with someone in the state government and set up an appointment to see the cemetery. My dad, sister and myself visited this cemetery on June 19, 2002. We were escorted by several men to the site and then back off the island. Never have figured out what is so secretive about what the game commission is doing on the island! Hopefully these pictures will be beneficial to someone doing Garman research. I wanted to share them on line since the cemetery is not easily accessible.
