THE ASPIRE PROGRAM

Thanks to the generosity of an anonymous local philanthropist, a grant was made in April of 2008 to the United Way of Larimer County to fund the establishment of the "Aspire Program". This program compliments and enriches the training offerings made available to the community through United Way's  Technical Assistance Program (TAP) of Northern Larimer County and Southern Wyoming.  The grant has been renewed in 2009 for a second year.

These funds enable qualified nonprofit organizations to receive a specified amount of consulting, training and coaching services free of charge. Interested agencies apply to the United Way for consideration and are asked to complete an organization assessment form.

Third Sector Enterprises, Inc.  is proud to have the contract with United Way to review the assessment forms, make recommendations to the United Way on the services that need to be provided, and then be responsible to provide such identified services to the selected agencies.

Over a dozen agencies have been selected to participate in the Aspire Program. Here are some comments from a few who have completed it:

Mary Elizabeth Lenahan is the Artistic & Executive Director of Dance Express and she writes, "Dance Express was privileged to have the help of Art Bavoso. He met with the board and staff to address service delivery, board development, fundraising, marketing and strategic planning, and general non-profit management concerns. In summary, the experience for the Dance Express board members and the artistic/executive director was truly beneficial".

Specific benefits of Aspire were:

1. Alignment in perceptions of the Dance Express vision and mission.
2. Tangible documents (strategic plan and fundraising plan) for organizing and delineating tasks.
3. Clarity of roles and responsibilities for board members and staff, especially in the fundraising arena.
4. Heightened awareness of the need for a "working" board for growth.
5. A method of accountability and sustainability.

Jane Bradley is the Executive Director of ChildSafe and she writes, "Art Bavoso and I had our final coaching/mentoring session this afternoon. I was very impressed with Art's follow-through on everything. When he gave me an assignment, he gave me a deadline and expected me to have it completed in a timely manner. I have a difficult time working with disorganized people so it was a pleasure to work with someone who adheres to timelines and expects others to do so as well."

Specific benefits of Aspire were:

1. How to write a resource development (aka fundraising) plan that is linked to ChildSafe's overall plan.
2. Board member roles and responsibilities and the three levels of Board members.
3. Where our Board Members see ChildSafe in the Lifecycle Assessment Grid and where we need to be,
4. Ways of looking at potential donors (ie. identify, qualify, cultivation, ask, steward)
5. Essential tools for the annual giving plan.

Tracy Mead is the Executive Director of the Education and Life Training Center and she writes, " We were extremely grateful to have had the use of Art's expertise and his support in developing and refining our core tools for success. Art gave us a great framework to guide the completion of these items and he completed the pieces that were appropriate for him, allowing us to continue our focus on our core business. We will be using what Art taught us to recruit board members, volunteers and donors."

Specific benefits of Aspire were:

1. Updating and fine-tuning our strategic plan.
2. Creation of our fundraising plan.
3. Creation of our Board of Directors and Volunteer Manuals.
