On October 13, the Associated Press reported that the so-called Bi-National Task Force on Rethinking the United States-Mexico Border has produced a report, which, among other things, calls for re-imposition of the federal “assault weapon” ban of 1994-2004, saying it would improve security in both countries.
The “border-rethinking” group has been put together by the Pacific Council on International Policy and the Mexican Council on Foreign Relations. The group consists mostly of former U.S. and Mexican officials and journalists, none of them currently elected by the people of the U.S. or Mexico to make policy on these issues.
According to the Pacific Council, the report is being released under the auspices of the Mexican CFR on November 13th and is absolutely unavailable until that time. The Brady Campaign, naturally, has a copy of the report anyway, and quotes its executive summary as saying “The United States should intensify efforts to curtail the smuggling of firearms, ammunition, and bulk cash into Mexico by aggressively investigating gun sellers, regulating gun shows, [and] reinstituting the Clinton-era ban on assault weapons.”

is President Barack Obama in such a hurry to get his socialized medicine bill
passed?
Because he and
his cunning circle realize some basic truths:
The American
people in their unimaginable kindness and trust voted for a pig in a poke in
2008.. They wanted so much to believe Barack Obama was somehow better and
different from other ultra-leftists that they simply took him on faith.
They ignored
his anti-white writings in his books. They ignored his quiet acceptance of
hysterical anti-American diatribes by his minister, Jeremiah Wright.
They ignored
his refusal to explain years at a time of his life as a student. They ignored
his ultra-left record as a "community organizer," Illinois state
legislator, and Senator.
The American
people ignored his total zero of an academic record as a student and teacher,
his complete lack of scholarship when he was being touted as a scholar.
Now, the
American people are starting to wake up to the truth. Barack Obama is a super
likeable super leftist, not a fan of this country, way, way too cozy with the
terrorist leaders in the Middle East, way beyond naďveté, all the way into
active destruction of our interests and our allies and our future.
The American
people have already awakened to the truth that the stimulus bill -- a great idea
in theory -- was really an immense bribe to Democrat interest groups, and in no
way an effort to help all Americans.
Now, Americans
are waking up to the truth that ObamaCare basically means that every time you
are sick or injured, you will have a clerk from the Department of Motor Vehicles
telling your doctor what he can and cannot do.
The American
people already know that Mr. Obama's plan to lower health costs while expanding
coverage and bureaucracy is a myth, a promise of something that never was and
never will be -- a bureaucracy lowering costs in a free society. Either the
costs go up or the free society goes away.
Mr. Obama knows
Americans are getting wise and will stop him if he delays at all in taking away
our freedoms.

House Republicans on Thursday called for a hearing to examine the Obama administration's decision to probe a major insurance company, at the behest of Sen. Max Baucus, over a mailer to customers about health care legislation -- a move they call a politically motivated "gag order" on critics of the Democratic plan.
Republicans say the administration was essentially punishing Humana for questioning the plan and firing a warning shot at any other companies that might be thinking of doing the same. The Department of Health and Human Services on Monday not only targeted Humana, but sent out a broad directive to all Medicare Advantage participants, telling them to "immediately discontinue all such mailings" and remove any such material from their Web sites.

While the CMS (Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services) has silenced private insurers on this issue with threats of investigation, it has not done so with AARP, the retirement group.
As we have pointed out, the organization that purports to lead "positive social change and deliver value to people age 50 and over through information, advocacy and service" has been a veritable cheerleader for health care reform, holding town hall meetings and mailing its members information in support.
