C.A. Zoebisch design based on key markings and
brace design, ca 1860. Brass with silver trim. Three top action American string
actuated rotary valves. Some historians call this a "New York" instrument,
and in all probability, the product of John F. Stratton. Anonymous. Called a
"Deaf Man's Horn" due to the closeness of the bell to the player's ear. It is
20" long, and has
a bell diameter of 4 5/8". It has a silver Bell Garland and an unmarked
Stratton-type shield on the side just before the bell flares. |
