This Baeder stuff is fantastic. Cost is much lower than other filters and it is readily available. Plus, it shows more detail than virtually any other filter on the market.
Yeah, I over did the cell, but it works extremely well. There is a lip on the inside to prevent jamming the scope into and possibly through the film. Also, I lined the inside with foam weather strip to ensure a snug, no slip, fit on the scope. Whatever you do, ensure the filter cannot be bumped off or blown off or fall off or ..... Do not try to stretch the wrinkles out, it induces a lot of distortion. Leave the film loose.
This cell fits my 4.5" Newtonian. It works great for visual use. When I try using it for photos, the secondary casts a shadow that I can't get around. I can't fit the Sun between the edge and the secondary to eliminate it. Has something to do with the difference in size between a human pupil and a camera's aperture. I have used it very successfully on the ST-80 by duck taping the cell to the front of the ST-80. Someday I will build a cell to fit the ST-80 properly, but, until then...
