Introduction
Welcome to the Cedar River and Iowa Central Railway Company. We hope your time here is a safe and enjoyable experience. Like all railroads Safety comes first. This Time Table helps us be safe and to have fun operating the railroad in a prototype manner.
Be Safe!
Please abide by the rules within this manual for your safety and for the safety of those around you. If you need an elevated platform to see better, use one of the three CR&IC stepstools. They are designed for safety and are less likely to tip over than a chair, box or other object. There are more than three separate electrical circuits on the railroad. One is high voltage so do not touch wiring unless authorized to do so.
Be Careful…
Please look but do not touch. The models are very fragile and can be expensive. Pease treat the equipment as your own. Run at realistic slow speeds and couple cars as if they were loaded with dynamite. Who knows…?
Have Fun!
Remember, this is a hobby, not a job. We are here to enjoy the railroad and each other’s friendship. If you are uncomfortable, if it gets too stressful like a job; ask for help. We can always make changes. This is not a life and death situation. Use your sense of humor often. Mistakes will happen.
· No Stains on Carpet.
· Speed Limit Restrictions:
Mainline: not to exceed 60mph for freight, 70mph for passenger, or as posted.
West Bottoms Branch: Not to exceed 15mph.
Yard Limit: not to exceed 15mph or as posted.
· Turnout Restrictions:
All turnouts (switches) shall be returned to normal or mainline route from diverging route following use.
· Train Protection on Main:
Flagging brakeman, front and rear shall protect all stopped trains on the main.
· DCC Restrictions:
All locomotives shall be “DCC dispatched” or released at end of their run. This terminates the engine number in the main DCC memory allowing for more slot room for other consists.
· Document all problems.
Each crewmember will document significant problem(s) so maintenance crews can solve or repair at a later date. Please mark with a post-it note or blue pushpin.

· Acquiring a Locomotive (4 digit addresses):
1. Hold down SEL/SET.
2. Turn the knob for the desired throttle (EXP will come on).
3. Release SEL/SET and use the left knob for the uppermost two digits and the right most knob for the least two digits.
4. Press SEL/SET when the desired digits are dialed in.
Alternatively, when in 2 digit address mode, keep bumping the address past 'c7', then EXP will turn on and the left knob will select the most significant two digits and the right will select the least significant two digits.
· Releasing a Locomotive:
1. Make the throttle that has acquired the locomotive active by twisting the corresponding knob (the two-headed arrow will blink and the DCC number will appear in the left two digits of the display) or the direction LED will blink.
2. Reduce the speed to 0 by turning the knob counter clockwise. The right 2 digits will become 0.
3. Do any of the following:
· Wait 6 seconds and the display will change to SEL.
· Dial up another locomotive and press SEL/SET.
· Push MODE/DISP (this will make the locomotive available to a basic throttle).
