The Better Cities Committee of Illinois, Inc. (BCCI), is an
Illinois not-for-profit corporation. Founded in 1971, the organization
has 20 members and a Yahoo Group,
BetterCities@yahoogroups.com
(See "Contact Us" for
particulars). BCCI
gets funding from the following sources: membership dues (amount
depends on the year), sale of video and audio tapes, grants, donations
and Entertainment Book Sales. BCCI''s
web site URL is bcci.home.comcast.net.
The associated e-mail address is bcci@comcast.net
which goes to the webmaster, Bob Jene.
The purpose of BCCI is: "To promote the cause of reforming and
restructuring the property tax, in order to further the orderly
development of our cities and eradicate slums. To educate the public
and to disseminate information in regard to the above endeavors, to
hold meetings and social events and publish media including video,
electronic and print."
BCCI is a member of the Evanston Community Media Center, the
Heartland Institute and the Council of Georgist Organizations, Inc.,
plus it is a recognized chapter of Common Ground USA (since 1992).
Activities: BCCI produced video and audio tapes, held annual
meetings and social events, researched such topics as affordable
housing and urban sprawl. It is networked with other like minded
groups.
Future plans are to finish putting up BCCI's web site, to conduct
grass roots lobbying for land taxes in Illinois and to network with
other like minded groups.
The BCCI is chaired by Sue Walton. BCCI videotaped Ted Gwartney's
presentation at the Heartland Institute's conference in Chicago in
April 2000, and videotaped the public policy event in Iowa in the fall
of 2000.

which sells entertainment books. So now that BCCI has a web page,
people will be able to purchase Entertainment books for other cities
(for their friends and relatives there) and at the same time make a donation to the BCCI
organization. To order books go to www.entertainment.com
and follow the instructions. Remember to enter our organization
account number, 10521, when you order.
