Programming Your
D-Star Radio

Our Recommendation For A D-Star Radio

JCDUG recommends the ID-880H.  Its power levels and features make it a good choice for base or mobile use.  It has a "one touch" feature for fast response to gateway calls.
The JCDUG administration recommends the services of KJI Electronics, Caldwell, NJ.

Programming For Local Use

To program your radio for local use on the NJ2DS repeaters follow the instructions below:

To Locally Access The 2 m Repeater

Frequency 146.775 Negative Offset
MYCALL = Your Call Sign
URCALL = CQCQCQ
RPT1 = NJ2DS C (C in 8th position)
RPT2 = Blank*

To Locally Access The 440 Repeater

Frequency 447.475 Negative Offset
MYCALL = Your Call Sign
URCALL = CQCQCQ
RPT1 = NJ2DS B (B in 8th position)
RPT2 = Blank*

*Programming the Gateway (NJ2DS G) in RPT2 is optional for local calls but is advantageous for receiving Gateway calls.

The NJ2DS 440 repeater is often linked with North Jersey repeaters.  If you have NJ2DS  G programmed into RPT2 make sure you listen for other activity on the frequency before beginning transmission.

Programming For Gateway Use

To access other repeaters and users via the Gateway your call sign must be registered on the Gateway System.  You must only register once!  If you registered through another Repeater's Gateway System, you need not register here.   To register via the JCDUG system please email our server administrator at: dstar_admin@jcdug.org

When making a Gateway call be sure to state that you are calling via the Gateway.  Make more than one call of sufficient duration to allow stations so equipped to set the "one touch response" feature.  After each call listen for a minute or so to allow responding stations without "one touch response" time to set their radios to answer through the Gateway.

To program your radio to contact a specific station via the NJ2DS Gateway follow the instructions below:

To  Contact A Specific Station Via The 2 m Repeater Gateway

Frequency 146.775 Negative Offset
MYCALL = Your Call Sign
URCALL = Call Sign of station being called
RPT1 = NJ2DS C (C in 8th position)
RPT2 = NJ2DS G (G in 8th position)

To  Contact A Specific Station Via The 440 Repeater Gateway

Frequency 447.475 Negative Offset
MYCALL = Your Call Sign
URCALL = Call Sign of station being called
RPT1 = NJ2DS B (B in 8th position)
RPT2 = NJ2DS G (G in 8th position)

  The NJ2DS 440 repeater is often linked with North Jersey repeaters.  If you have NJ2DS  G programmed into RPT2 make sure you listen for other activity on the frequency before beginning transmission.

To program your radio to make a general call to a remote repeater via the NJ2DS Gateway follow the instructions below:

To Make A General Call To A Remote Repeater (Example KK2SBG) Via The 2 m Repeater Gateway

Frequency 146.775 Negative Offset
MYCALL = Your Call Sign
URCALL = /KK2SBGC  (Module In 8th Position) The Module is A, B or C depending upon the remote repeater module to be accessed.
RPT1 = NJ2DS C (C in 8th position)
RPT2 = NJ2DS G (G in 8th position)

To Make A General Call To A Remote Repeater (Example N1ABC) Via The  440 Repeater Gateway

Frequency 447.475 Negative Offset
MYCALL = Your Call Sign
URCALL = /N1ABC B (Module In 8th Position) The Module is A, B or C depending upon the remote repeater module to be accessed.
RPT1 = NJ2DS B (B in 8th position)
RPT2 = NJ2DS G (G in 8th position)

When making a general call to a remote repeater URCALL must start with a / followed by the callsign and then the letter of the RF module on the remote system you wish to transmit from.  The module letter must be in the 8th position regardless of call sign length.  Common RF module identifiers are:

A = 1.2 gig
B = 440
C = 2 meters

 Important Tips:

1.  When you sign after a gateway call you must return URCALL to CQCQCQ.  Should you fail to do so your subsequent calls will still go via the gateway to the user and/or repeater indicated in URCALL.

2.  The NJ2DS 440 repeater is often linked with North Jersey repeaters.  If you have NJ2DS  G programmed into RPT2 make sure you listen for other activity on the frequency before beginning transmission.
