As I indicated the the Oshkosh Diary missive, I didn't get a chance to take but a single lame picture of the RV Builders Family Reunion Barbecue. But a few folks who did have sent them along and I appreciate their doing so.

This is the back side of the "compound" formed in the middle of the thunderstorm when Frank Zwart pulled his big RV (the kind with wheels) around to provide some shelter from the storm, as Dylan would say. (Photo by Tami Moeller)

Somewhere in that crowd, there's a line to get to the food. That's my tent back thre (the tan one with the blue and white striped awning). The BBQ pit with Darwin Barrie, Terry Frazier, and Howard Kaney was there. At one point I saw flames leaping about 4 feet in the air. We had three campsites here but everyone around us was an RVer, so we actually had a large area, but when we brought the RV in for the awning, we lost about half the room. This is my "secret spot" in Camp Scholler. There's a creek bed that bows outward here, and they can't fit in another road. So here the distance between the roadways is 80 feet (for a 20 x 40 campsite), instead of 60 feet (for the EAA's 20 x 30 dimensions. I suppose I've just lost my spot for next year. This must've been taken around 8:45 p.m. when we were done with the beer runs. I'm thanking Stein Bruch (in the beard and baseball cap to my right). Behind me is Jim Whitaker and Debbie Pennington. The on the right with the microphone is Mark Sletten from Aero News Network. He was going to do a piece on us but I guess it didn't make the cut.

Me talking again. See that beer I'm holding. It's the first and only one I had, just for the record. In the heat of Oshkosh this year, I was mostly a lemonade guy. See in the background? There's a woman there watching us. I did a really poor job of getting to the neighbors. I just plain forgot. Usually I tell them what I'm up to and they all come and eat and drink for free in exchange for our noise. They were mostly cool, though, and I talked to them afterward. The only guy who got upset was one guy who got boxed in by someone who drove over. But he wasn't going anywhere anyway and, besides, his stupid car alarm kept going off the night before and most of that morning. (Photo by Tami Moeller)

Todd Moeller is on the right and that's Brian Degenhardt from Australia on the left. This was obviously taken after we ran out of the good beer. For the record, the initial stash was Corono and Leinenkugel's Honeyweiss. But back to the story. Todd says, "I was able to meet a builder and his wife (Brian Degenhardt, RV BBQ 5.jpg) I had been e-mailing for about 2 years now. They were from Australia and were quite the couple. It is an amazing community where you can e-mail and meet people from halfway around the world in the pursuit of building an airplane." (Photo by Tami Moeller)

I don't know what I'm doing here but I think it's during the speech or something. In the background is Frank Zwart and his new bride, Joyce. What nice people! Obscured by my head is Glenn Brasch, and that might be his son, Michael and I'm pretty sure that's Curt Welge standing behind Frank. Apologies if I'm wrong. The memory doesn't serve me as well as it once did. (Photo by Bob Kelly)

Folks pretty much spreading out and finding a spot wherever they could. (Photo by Bob Kelly)

The canopy that Marshall Alexander donated to us last year worked like a champ. Gotta get a couple more. This is obviously the food line. (Photo by Bob Kelly)

And folks standing in the food line. I've got a few ideas on how to make this work better next year. (Photo: Bob Kelly)

Literally, happy campers. (Photo by Bob Kelly)

This is our compound. I'm actually seeing this for the first time. Man, looks like fun. (Photo by Bob Kelly)

We pretty much took over 12th Street. (Photo: Bob Kelly)

This is Mark interviewing Stein Bruch of SteinAir. If you haven't seen Mark's story on ANN yet, click here.

Thee's Stein again. I never did get to see the motorized couch he has. But there's a blurb about it on ANN.
