The Cowtippers enjoyed another busy winter.

We're Back!
After a nightmarish 2006 season in which the Salem Cowtippers finished with a sub-.500 record for the first time in franchise history, and an embarrassing last-place finish, the franchise is back in full force.  Ten winter trades netted ace Brandon Webb, closer B.J. Ryan, sluggers Scott Rolen, Orlando Hudson, Mike Cameron and Conor Jackson, and reliever Will Ohman among others.

A year ago, the Cowtippers went into the draft reeling after the free agent defections of Roger Clemens, Curt Schilling, Michael Young and Mark Loretta, an injury-shortened season by franchise star Lance Berkman, and disappointing seasons by Ivan Rodriguez and Sean Burroughs.  As a result, the team scrambled to fill several holes in the auction and draft.  When the dust settled, the team was left with Chad Moeller behind the plate, and Nick Punto as the starting shortstop.  A year later, Salem's entire 25-man roster was set before the draft even began, with an impact player entrenched at every position.

Heading into the 2007 season, the Cowtippers not only strive toward their seventh division title and first BDBL championship, but they look to regain the lead in the all-time franchise wins category as well.

With a star-studded lineup, rotation, bullpen and bench, the Cowtippers are well-positioned to make a run at the title in 2007.  And with nearly every player signed through the 2008 season, the teams looks to stay on top for a while.

Bruce, Maybin Lead Salem Farm
Throughout the spring, top prospect lists will begin popping up all over the internet.  And whenever they do, you can expect to see two Cowtipper farmhands at the top of every list: Jay Bruce and Cameron Maybin.

In his first full professional season, Bruce hit .291/.355/.516, with 42 doubles, 16 homers and 19 stolen bases.  His sweet left-handed stroke has been compared to Larry Walker and Paul O'Neill.

Also playing in his first full professional season, Maybin hit .304/.387/.457, with 20 doubles, 9 home runs and 27 stolen bases, while playing in the toughest hitter's park in the minor leagues.

In addition to Bruce and Maybin, the Cowtippers farm also includes the #1 pick in last year's MLB Amateur Draft, Luke Hochevar, #4 pick Brad Lincoln, probable 2007 first-rounders Justin Jackson, Josh Vitters, Rick Porcello and J.P. Arencibia, and probable 2008 #1 pick Pedro Alvarez.
