Website Changes
- Future 2009 ___: Start using Cascading Style Sheets.
- Future 2009 ___: Set up a MIDI index page and pages for each composer.
(The MIDI files aren't ready, but having a publicly-visible place to attach them may inspire me.)
- Tue 2009 Sep 08: Use webcheck's the "-f" (force) option in the makefile to overwrite previous reports.
- Sun 2009 Sep 06: Installed the current version of webcheck (1.10.3):
% rm /usr/local/bin/webcheck
% ln -s $HOME/webpages/webcheck-1.10.3/webcheck.py /usr/local/bin/webcheck
% sudo ln -s $HOME/webpages/webcheck-1.10.3/webcheck.1 /usr/local/man/man1/webcheck.1
Updated the links for webcheck on the site-tools page.
Updated the $PYTHONPATH environment variable (needed by webcheck) in the webcheck.env script.
Modified the upload.web script to change the <BASE HREF>
from http://bdchivers.home.comcast.net/ back to http://home.comcast.net/~bdchivers.
The shorter one works, but webcheck reports "301 Moved Permanently" errors on every page.
webcheck ran successfully; took 1:27.
Changed http://bdchivers.home.comcast.net/ to http://home.comcast.net/~bdchivers in many files:
Friend of a Friend .rdf file,
linklint config file,
mk_copy-paste,
About my TV-Program Episode Numbers Page.
- Sat 2009 Sep 05: Modified the edit.rtv_episodes and makefile files to clean up the Episodes List page.
Replaced wild-card "." characters in program titles with "-".
(The original program titles from the ReplayTV site probably had non-ASCII characters.)
- Fri 2009 Sep 04: Added a new page/directory of resumés and added my August 1989 resumé as the first item.
Added my resumés to the site-map page.
Added a comment to the photo albums page mentioning that netSnapShot stopped accepting photos in late 2006, and my photos are now available on atpic.com.
- Wed 2009 Aug 19: Added a comment on the site-tools page that the mytv script is no longer useful because ReplayTV has stopped providing the source data.
- Fri 2009 Aug 14: Corrected the link for the Maryland Renaissance Festival on my index page.
(Problem reported by "Jennifer" by email.)
- Thu 2009 Aug 13: Incorrectly said that the atpic.upl script uploads pictures in 100KB batches; they're 100MB.
Corrected the comment in the script and in the mentions on the site-tools and site-map pages.
- Fri 2009 Jul 24: webcheck has been handed off to a new developer
at a new website.
The current version is 1.10.3 (2008-07-19) and I need to install it.
- Mon 2009 Jun 22: Added atpic.upl to the site-tools
and site-map pages.
- Fri 2009 Feb 27: Added makecalhtml.c and the alco script to the site-map.
- Mon 2009 Feb 23: Wrote the makecalhtml.c program and created the 2009 Status Calendar page.
- Sat 2008 Jun 28: Put tables of links at the beginning of each year's entries on this page.
Set up links for 2004-2008, replacing the blocks of links for 2004-2005 that were there,
originally meant to go every screen's worth (on my screen, which isn't particularly representative) of entries.
- Thu 2008 Apr 24: Modified my mk.tv.html to add a links to the Episodes List
and TV Remote page on the new (manually-updated) ReplayTV content page.
- Wed 2008 Apr 23: Modified my mk.tv.html script to no longer add a <BASE HREF> tag;
rely on the BASE HREF in the index page.
(Probably picked this up from the calendar page, where it was also incorrect.)
- Mon 2008 Apr 21: Modified my awk.calendar program to no longer add a <BASE HREF> tag;
rely on the BASE HREF in the index page.
- Sun 2008 Apr 20: Many improvements to the mk.tv.html script – now lists recent deletions, and dates display month names instead of numbers.
- Sat 2008 Apr 19: Created a new page of ReplayTV content that will be updated manually.
This will be something of a replacement for the ReplayTV contents page,
since the MyReplayTV.com site is dead.
Added it to the site-map, although I don't know yet what other pages I'll like to it from.
(The MYReplayTV web site is defunct, so there is no longer any automated source for this information.)
Wrote the mk.tv.html script to generate the new ReplayTV content page from a text file.
Added the new mk.tv.html script to the site-tools page.
Modified the makefile to run mk.tv.html when the the source data file changes.
Added a link to the new ReplayTV content page on the home page, and struck out many ReplayTV references there.
- Sun 2008 Mar 16: Updated the audio-hijack schedule page.
WDAV now supports iTunes for streaming audio, so switching to the new URL for that
lets me use RealAudio at the same time for the BBC's Early Music Show when the US is on DST and the UK is not.
WDAV's schedule shows that they now carry all 4 hours of
Sunday Baroque, not just the last 2.
The first hour is concurrent with Millenium of Music on WOI, but that's RealAudio too, not iTunes.
The second hour will conflict with regular broadcasts of the BBC's Early Music Show (RealAudio),
and with Morning Edition Sunday's on-air puzzle (already using iTunes, so as not to conflict with Sunday Baroque previously using RealAudio).
I don't know whether iTunes will do 2 programs at once.
(I suspect it won't.)
- Sun 2008 Feb 10: Updated the audio-hijack schedule page.
WDAV now airs Harmonia at 06:00 Sundays instead of 18:00.
(The change happened at least a month ago, so I have several mis-named recordings of Sacred Classics.)
- Fri 2008 Jan 22: Updated the remote reference for a 2nd Philips Universal Remote.
- Sun 2008 Jan 06: Made adjustments to the Audio Hijack recording schedule (get the last hour of Internet Pro Musica
instead of Hearts of Space) and updated the audio-hijack schedule page to match.
- Sun 2007 Nov 18: Added Sunday-evening Internet Pro Musica from the Top-Secret Radio Network to the audio-hijack schedule page.
- Wed 2007 Oct 31: The MyReplayTV.com site has been discontinued (allegedly effective Oct 26, but I got info from it Oct 28),
so there can be no more updates to my ReplayTV contents page.
- Mon 2007 Oct 22: Restored the 4 mp3 files removed for space reasons last week.
Comcast's FTP server no longer shows the available disk quota, but I apparently have more space now.
- Mon 2007 Oct 15: Temporarily removed 4 mp3 files from the site to make room for new icon jpg files.
They'll be back when Comcast provides the promised disk-quota increase (from 25MB to 1GB).
- Fri 2007 Oct 06: I have finally hit my personal web space disk quota at Comcast – right after they announced raising the limit to 1GB per account.
I guess it's not in effect yet.
- Sat 2007 Sep 29: Corrected the URL for streaming audio from WAMU's HD2 (via BluegrassCountry.org) for Thistle and Shamrock.
(Had to register on BluegrassCountry.org to get access to the URL.)
Weekend Edition Sunday is now on WAMU, and WAMU now has an MP3 stream (along with RealAudio and Windows Media),
so I can record the Sunday Puzzle (via MP3) while I record Sunday Baroque (in RealAudio).
- Sun 2007 Sep 23: WAMU has moved Thistle and Shamrock from 17:00 Sundays to 18:00 Saturdays, and has moved to the HD2 radio service.
Updated the audio-hijack schedule page.
- Sun 2007 Sep 16: KSUI has changed its schedule.
Hearts of Space is now on when
Millenium of Music used to be on,
and Millenium moves to 07:00 Sunday.
KSUI and WOI appear to be the same content, although WOI's feed may be higher quality.
(WAMU's schedule changes tomorrow.)
Added Health in a Heartbeat weeknights, but on Mondays conflicts with (early startup for) Harmonia.
Updated these changes on the audio-hijack schedule page.
- Sun 2007 Aug 26: Updated the audio-stream URLs for WDAV,
WKCR, and WBJC
on the audio-hijack schedule page.
Quicktime is working for WKCR today. (I've been back and forth with RealPlayer for that stream....)
- Sun 2007 Apr 22: Updated the URL for live audio from WBJC
on the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
- Wed 2007 Mar 28: Adjust Audio-Hijack recording times and updated the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
The WKCR Early Music Show was shifted, and no longer conflicts with the last Morning Edition Return.
Pipedreams should have been struck through months ago.
- Sun 2007 Mar 18: Adjust Audio-Hijack recording times and updated the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
- Tue 2007 Mar 06: Modified the makefile to sanitize an additional company name.
- Sun 2007 Mar 04: Wrote a new page About my TV-Program Episode Numbers Page explaining that my
TV-Program Episode Numbers page is not a library catalog
, and the programs/episodes listed there
are not available for sale (or otherwise) through me.
The episode-list page apparently turns up in web searches, and I've become a last hope for a few people who can't find what they want on PBS's web pages
(because, for whatever reasons, PBS is not making the old programs available).
I received 2 requests this weekend.
- Fri 2007 Feb 23: Noticed that the Stardate radio program on WAMU had been rescheduled from weekdays at 20:04 to 21:04, and updated the
Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
Went back through past recordings, and discovered this happened on 2006 December 28.
Added Toccata with Mark Malinowski, a program of diverse keyboard music 18:00:15-19:00:00 Sundays on
WBJC (Baltimore), recommended by Tim Burr.
Removed Earth & Sky weekdays on WETA from the list also, since it is no longer carried.
(WETA switched its format to all classical, with just a little news.)
WETA is not carrying Weekend Edition Sunday any more either,
so no Sunday Puzzle.
(It had already been scratched out for conflicting with the BBC Early Music Show.)
- Thu 2007 Jan 18: NetSnapShot.com (free photo-album hosting site) is back.
Updated the main page and the photo albums and interesting links pages.
- Mon 2007 Jan 08: Added links to websites for all the programs listed on the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
Updated the US/Europe DST comment in the hijack_sched.tail file to reflect the US 2007 DST changes.
- Sun 2007 Jan 07: KUNI Radio has dropped
the Celtic Connections program Sunday afternoons.
Struck it out on the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
Found Celtic Connections at 23:00 Sundays on KUMR in Rolla, Missouri.
KBCS live audio URL has changed again.
- Wed 2006 Dec 13: Updated the main page and the photo albums
and interesting links pages to mention that the free photo-album hosting site I've been using,
NetSnapShot.com is dead.
Removed the stale info about Apple iBook logic-board warranty extensions from the main page.
- Sun 2006 Dec 10: Updated the main page, the site-tools page, and the
phantom Ad Hoc Singers page with the new URL to the re-hosted Ad Hoc Singers Web Site.
Updated 31 bad links on this page to the old Ad Hoc Singers webpages (URL was missing ".com").
Clarified remaining links to the SitesbySteve Ad Hoc Singers pages as pointing to SitesbySteve.com/adhoc, soon to be defunct.
(But the point of those change entries is that they were pointing to SitesbySteve, so it makes no sense to update them to the new hosts.)
- Wed 2006 Aug 30: Re-arranged my photo albums page slightly and added new links:
FSGW Folk Festival 2006,
Morris Family Reunion 2006,
Digi-Comp 1 computer, and
XXXV (2006).
- Sat 2006 Jul 08: Updated the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
Added a column with the location of the radio stations (mods to the awk.hijack.sched awk program),
and noted the effects of Daylight Savings Time (in the hijack_sched.tail file).
- Tue 2006 Apr 18: Steve Cordle found the correct HTML syntax for adding favicons on Wikipedia.
I wrote an ed script to make those changes to my web-page files, and used grep and find to find the 33 HTML files and 1 awk
program that need editing.
/<LINK REL="SHORTCUT ICON" HREF=/
s|favicon.ico">$|favicon.ico" TYPE="image/x-icon">|p
.t-
s/SHORTCUT //p

q
Modified my awk.calendar program to create proper favicon tags.
- Sun 2006 Mar 05: Added the last hour of the 3-hour KBCS (Seattle) program Sunday's Hornpipe
to the Audio-Hijack schedule and to the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
(This immediately proceeds the Mostly Medieval program, also from KBCS.)
- Sat 2006 Jan 28: Added a new, perhaps temporary page for the Capriccio Catch Club.
It has a low-quality 31-minute MP3 file of the Merrie Fellowes Catch Club broadcast on BBC-3 this morning.
There was not enough room remaining in my bdchivers@comcast account to hold the 11 MB file, so I put it in the cchivers@comcast account.
- Thu 2006 Jan 26: Modified the hijack_sched.head file and the makefile
to add the hijack_sched file's timestamp to the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
Added 3 programs to my Audio Hijack schedule:
the BBC Early Music Show weekends,
the WKCR Early Music Show Friday mornings,
and 2 hours of Hearts of Space from WUIS Sunday nights.
- Sun 2006 Jan 15: Wrote the awk.html.tbl awk program
to convert generic files of tab-separated fields into HTML table rows. The first line of input is treated as table column headers.
(The rest of the setup of the page must be done elsewhere.)
Wrote the awk.hijack.sched awk program to convert my Audio-Hijack schedule text file into an HTML table.
Added lines to the makefile to generate the new Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page.
Added a link to the Audio-Hijack Scheduled Recording page on the main page.
Added the new awk program and web page to the site-map page.
Added the new awk program to the site-tools page.
Now that I have a better idea how variables work in make, condition some of the targets on the scripts that create them.
Some targets were missing from the makefile's all: and local: pseudo-targets.
- Sat 2006 Jan 14: Wrote the touch-24 script to timestamp checkpoint files 24 hours back so that
make will generate some pages no more than once a day.
Replaced absolute paths to scripts in the makefile with $$HOME-relative paths.
Updated the site-map page.
- Wed 2006 Jan 04: New iBook G4 computer.
- Mon 2005 Dec 26: Used Barfly to generate an ABC file of the French carol Il est ne, with a PNG score and a MIDI file.
- Sun 2005 Nov 27: Downloaded a new version (1.9.4) of WebCheck.
Last previous run: Generated Mon Apr 5 09:03:28 2004 by Webcheck 1.0.
- Sat 2005 Nov 26:
Running a "vrfy" pass to check the links.
Had to remove the links to http://www.bradleyhillschurch.org/ from the calendar.html file because they
hang in both webcheck and lynx.
- Sun 2005 Nov 13: Wrote a new script title-tag to look for ALT= attributes without a matching TITLE=,
and copy the ALT string to new TITLE info for mouse-over tooltips from Firefox.
(MSIE displays tooltips from ALT, but this is considered improper behavior. The tooltip display should come from the TITLE, so I want to have TITLEs.)
Added title-tag to the site-tools and site-map pages.
- Sun 2005 Sep 18: Changed my default browser from Safari (1.3.1)
to FireFox (1.0.6) because Safari fails to load images too often.
Used Ellipsis Productions' Safari Bookmark Exporter (1.1) to load my Safari bookmarks into Firefox.
(There's some debate as to which browser is faster, but speed doesn't do any good if much of the content is dropped.)
- Fri 2005 Jun 24: edit.rtv_epi_seq doesn't need to be included on the
site tools and site map pages
because it is generated by the makefile.
- Thu 2005 Jun 23: Updated information about ImageWell
updates to the site tools page.
Installed ImageWell v2b222, which adds PNG support.
Added the ReplayTV editor scripts to the site tools and site map pages:
edit.epi.nos,
edit.episodes,
edit.html.file,
edit.rec,
edit.shows,
edit.split.titles,
edit.titles,
edit.year,
edit.rtv.html,
edit.rtv_epi_seq,
edit.rtv_episodes.
- Wed 2005 Jun 22: Created a new Friend of a Friend .rdf file,
with links from the main page and the site map.
- Tue 2005 Jun 21: Created a new geek code page with my geek code, and with links to sites to
define, decode,
and generate geek codes.
Linked to it from the main page and the site map.
Generated a FoaF file using the foaf-a-matic generator,
and linked it to the main page.
- Fri 2005 Jun 10: Major improvements generating the TV Episodes page.
(Found episode numbers for Hetty Wainthropp Investigates on Mystery!,
and fixing those Battlestar Galactica program/episode titles that had some commonalities.
I hope to find episode numbers for additional Mystery! programs.)
Made some corresponding changes in the makefile.
Generated an extra file of edit commands to sort the episode list by program title without altering the episode sequencing from the original edit.epi.nos file.
Standardized many episode titles in the ReplayTV's edit.epi.nos file to remove many near-duplicate variants.
- Fri 2005 May 06: Added tv_episodes.html to the list of targets for all in the makefile
so this page will be updated when the ReplayTV's edit.epi.nos file is modified.
- Sat 2005 Mar 19: Modifed the makefile to generate the new TV Episodes page.
Requires a new awk program awk.tv_episodes;
added this to the site tools and site map pages.
Added links to the new TV Episodes page from the
site map page and my home page.
Modified the mytv script to add links to the TV Episodes page
from the ReplayTV contents page.
- Tue 2005 Mar 15: blackcider.com has merged with BlueTie, an email hosting company.
BlackCider's web site no longer contains information about the iBook Logic-Board Failures.
I have removed the link from my home page.
- Sat 2005 Mar 12: Updated the link to the Tumult HyperEdit website
on the site tools page.
The old link doesn't work any more.
- Sat 2005 Mar 05: Renamed the mk.html.tbl3 script mk.html.tbl3c because there is now a new version of mk.html.tbl3 that creates left-justified
columns instead of center-justified.
Modifed the makefile to use the new script name for generating the
interesting links page.
- Thu 2005 Jan 27: Modified the makefile
to remove more identifying text from the spam statistics page.
- Fri 2004 Nov 19: Wrote a new script get.episodes to retrieve TV-program episode titles
with sequence numbers from the TV Tome website and generate an editor script used by the mytv script
to add episode sequence numbers to my ReplayTV contents page.
This is particularly useful for shows that have run multiple seasons and which now have reruns and new episodes airing.
This makes it easy to watch the recorded shows in time sequence.
It also identifies the the episodes that are part of a continued story.
2 shows had sequence numbers before (added manually); 27 more shows were added tonight.
Added get.episodes to the site tools and site map pages.
- Mon 2004 Nov 08: Added a link to the
ReplayTV contents page
on the remote reference page.

ReplayTV contents page
back to the remote reference page.

- Thu 2004 Oct 28: Marked my calendar and the spam statistics links as
[✆big] on the main and site map pages, as a notice for dial-up users.
- Thu 2004 Oct 21: Modified my awk.calendar program
to convert any nroff-commented HTTP URLs in my calendar.tbl file into HTML Anchor Tags
on the next printable line in my calendar.
This caused me to move many of the URL comments in calendar.tbl to turn appropriate lines into links.
- Sat 2004 Sep 25: Added my new calendar to the main page.
- Fri 2004 Sep 24: Added the Renaissance version of The Simpsons theme to the
site map – it had been overlooked.
- Fri 2004 Sep 24: Added the awk.calendar awk program and my calendar
to the site tools page and the site map.
- Fri 2004 Sep 24: Added links to 3 recently-created NetSnapShot.com albums
to my photo albums page:
our new (2000 used)
Chevy Express 1500 Van,
April & Jerry's Wedding at Camp Letts in August,
and the Ad Hoc Singers at the
Dominican Retreat fundraiser.
- Thu 2004 Sep 23: Writing the awk.calendar program to convert my calendar.tbl file into HTML.

- Sat 2004 May 08: Added Bike-to-Work Day 2004
to the collection of netSnapShot.com albums.
- Tue 2004 May 04: Included the Ad Hoc Singers redirect page on the
site map.
- Sat 2004 May 01: Changed most of the Ad-Hoc Singers links on this page of site changes to point to the
new location hosted by SitesbySteve,
instead of any (now obsolete) local files.
- Sat 2004 May 01: Show my favicon image in-line on this page of site changes instead of linking to it.
- Tue 2004 Apr 27: Created a new page with links to my netSnapShot.com albums.
Added it to the site map.
- Mon 2004 Apr 26: netSnapShot.com has space again, so I've removed the out-of-space comment from my home page.
(I uploaded my Chesapeake Weekend 2004 pictures last night.)
- Sat 2004 Apr 24: Deleted the AdHoc files from my Comcast.net web-server space.

(Added it to the list of interesting links.)

Also mentioned that the Ad Hoc pages will be moving soon to www.sitesbysteve.com/adhoc.

- Sun 2004 Apr 18: Added a comment to my home page about the current lack of space (since 3/22) on
NetSnapShot.com.
- Thu 2004 Apr 15: Replaced links for Gerald Finzi (1901-1956) on the Ad Hoc Singers
2004 January concert page
with direct Wikipedia links to
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gerald_Finzi instead of to
www.fact-index.com/g/ge/gerald_finzi.html.
(fact-index.com admits that its material is from Wikipedia.)
- Sun 2004 Apr 11: Added future entries to this site-change log.
Included a future table-button along with all the month-jump buttons on this site-change log page.
- Sat 2004 Apr 10: Added META tags to all the site pages with Description,

Modified the mytv script to include the new META tags in the HEAD section
of the page it generates.
Added the new tags to the default-page code snippets set up in HyperEdit.
- Fri 2004 Apr 09: In the upload.web script, call FTP with the "-V" argument to turn off verbose and progress, so
less info will scroll off the screen. (I made this same change to the mytv script yesterday.)
Created a new file .ftp_init with initial FTP commands to send before transferring files.
Added .ftp_init to the site map.
- Sun 2004 Apr 04: Updated several makefile targets (check, test, vrfy, webcheck)
to match the new <BASE HREF> http://bdchivers.home.comcast.net/.
- Sat 2004 Apr 03: Added WHIRL
(Washington's Happily Independent Recumbent Lovers) to my list of interesting links.
- Sat 2004 Apr 03: Modified the upload.web script to change my <BASE HREF> from
http://home.comcast.net/~bdchivers/ to http://bdchivers.home.comcast.net/.
(Comcast's documentation specifies the former, but I prefer the looks of the latter, and I could not see any reason why it wouldn't work.
I've been wanting to make this change for some time.)
- Sat 2004 Apr 03: Tumult HyperEdit breaks hard links.
Modified the upload.web
script to find and restore my broken links. (They occur in a specific file-naming pattern.)

to the Ad Hoc Singers 2004 Jan 25 concert page.
- Sun 2004 Mar 14: Added the Ad Hoc Singers 2004 Jan 25 concert page
and its program to the site map.
- Sun 2004 Mar 14: Created 3 new web pages using the achivers,
alchivers, and jechivers
subaccounts. Comcast allows 26MB per account, and I needed 62MB to hold the MP3 files from the
Ad Hoc Singers 2004 Jan 25 concert.
The MP3 files are split among those 3 accounts. This is not a workable long-term arrangement,
and I do not have enough space here to keep adding Ad-Hoc music, let alone my pictures.
- Sun 2004 Mar 14: Started a page for the Ad Hoc Singers
2004 Jan 25 concert.
- Sun 2004 Mar 14: Bought an Antec
NoteBook Cooler at
MicroCenter.
It may extend the life (or reduce the failure rate) of my iBook,
where I create and edit the pages for this web site.
- Sat 2004 Mar 13: Added Final Vinyl and
Audacity to the site tools page.
- Sat 2004 Mar 13: Recorded a snip of the .Hack//Sign closing theme song
(Yasashii Yoake by Yuki Kajiura).
- Sat 2004 Mar 13: Google found many more links to groups named Ad Hoc Singers, enough to merit a
separate page listing them.
- Sat 2004 Mar 13: Google found Stephanie Stauffer's (ex Ad-Hoc) new home page
that I can add to the Ad Hoc past-members page.
Google also found a link on the Arlington Forest United Methodist Church
web site for Louise Lee.
- Sat 2004 Mar 13: Changed the Ad Hoc Singers' favicon from the letters "AH" to the tiny words "Ad Hoc".
- Fri 2004 Mar 12: Created favicon files using Iconographer.
Created a .ico file of orange and blue triangles for my pages,
and an "AH" .ico for the Ad Hoc Singers pages.
(The favicon.ico files don't seem to work when viewing local disk files.)
Added Iconographer to the
site tools page.
Modified the mytv script to include my favicon.
- Fri 2004 Mar 12: Modified the adhoc/past_members.tail file (used to build the Ad Hoc Singers
past-members page) to include a link to return to the
Ad Hoc Singers home page (as other Ad Hoc pages do).
- Thu 2004 Mar 11: Dubbed the MiniDisc recording of the
Ad Hoc Singers 2004 Jan 25 concert (Dona Nobis Pacem)
to a digital AIFF file.
- Thu 2004 Mar 11: Commentary on the Ad Hoc Singers
2004/Feb/04 rehearsal page.
- Thu 2004 Mar 11: Corrected a grammar typo in the upload.web,
mk.html.tbl4, and get.safari.bookmarks scripts.
- Fri 2004 Mar 05: Miscellaneous cleanup.
- Thu 2004 Mar 04: Added my obfuscated mailto link to the EXCLUDED_URLS list in
webcheck's config.py file to reduce the number of errors reported when
webcheck inspects my website.
- Thu 2004 Mar 04: Wrote the webcheck.env script to sent the
$PYTHONPATH environment variable (needed by webcheck) and then run
webcheck.
I added this script because I couldn't find a way to set an environment variable in the makefile.
I listed webcheck.env on the
site-tools and the site-map pages.
- Thu 2004 Mar 04: Added Kite Aerial Photography to the interesting links page.
- Sun 2004 Feb 29: Removed dead links identified by webcheck from my
interesting links page.
- Sun 2004 Feb 29: Added a page describing the tools I use to maintain this site.
The site-map page has been modified to list the tools under the
tools page instead of under this page of site changes.
- Sat 2004 Feb 28: Added an
email me link
with an encoded mailto tag to almost every .html page.
So there isn't a need for a separate mailto page.
- Fri 2004 Feb 27: Apparently comcast.net's personal web pages do not support .cgi or .pl files.
Executables need to be .exe or .bin, but they don't say what these are.
Assuming .exe is an Intel/MSDOS binary, that one's out.
I have no idea what .bin would be.
The files I uploaded with FTP do not have execute permission on the web server,
and I don't "own" the files, so I can't chmod them.
This means doing any HTML forms is not an option, for now.
I guess I will un-retire the mailto page,
and retire the feedback and feedback2 pages.
- Thu 2004 Feb 26: Created the feedback and
feedback2 pages to take viewer comments with form input instead of using mailto.
Trying to use James Marshall's
mailer.pl PERL program to process the form.
Moved mailto to the old items page.
- Tue 2004 Feb 24: Created a page of old items.
Old things may get a respite here before they're gone for good.
- Tue 2004 Feb 24: Continued last week's experiments setting up mailto support.
- Tue 2004 Feb 17: My iBook died.
It began working again after disassembly/reassembly Sun 2004 Feb 22.
I was working on adding anti-spammer-encrypted mailto contact information.

interesting links page.

John Guillory to my homepage.

Added webcheck to the makefile.

- Sun 2004 Feb 15: Broken links to external pages have been updated or removed.
(All were on my interesting links page.)
- Sun 2004 Feb 15: I removed a <!BASE HREF=....> comment from the <HEAD> section of my
homepage (htmlchek didn't like it) and now
webcheck is inspecting my site from the top.
<BASE> needs to have different values in my local filesystem and on the web server, and that comment was to serve as a reminder.
(So much for comments being ignored....)
- Sun 2004 Feb 15: The problems using htmlchek
and webcheck may have something to do with my homepage itself.
webcheck did a recursive exploration from my Ad Hoc Singers page.
- Sun 2004 Feb 15: Improved some ALT tags for image-free browsers.
- Sun 2004 Feb 15: Could not get
htmlchek to test my links recursively.
(If I have to specify every page to test, it's not very automated, is it?)
Also tried lvrfy, but found that it doesn't do as much as I want.
(It doesn't check external references.)
Now trying Mike Meyer's webcheck –
looks very nice, but it's not getting through my home page.
(Hmmm, there's at least two other things out on the web named webcheck.)
- Sat 2004 Feb 14: Installed htmlchek
for validating my HTML code and linklint-2.3.5 for checking my links.
- Sat 2004 Feb 14: Added a Site Map.
Added a link to the site map from most other pages.

Age Gauge to my main page.
- Tue 2004 Feb 10: My page of interesting links has been totally re-done.
- Mon 2004 Feb 09: Wrote the get.safari.bookmarks script to extract links and titles from a
Safari Bookmarks.plist file as anchor tags.
I will use this to update my interesting links page.
(If your browser ignores the script's .txt extension, try view source.)
- Mon 2004 Feb 09: Added Barry Galef to my list of
Friends' web sites.
- Sun 2004 Feb 08: Updated the Ad Hoc Singers page.
The Feb 8 concert has moved from the future to the past.

- Sun 2004 Feb 08: Added an MP3 of the Music Box theme from the
Waltz for Venus episode of
Cowboy Beebop.
- Sun 2004 Feb 08: Modified the upload.web script to include old (timestamp) files
that have been linked into the local directories.
- Sun 2004 Feb 08: Added a "reload" action to the makefile – deletes the
checkpoint file used by the upload.web
script so that all the files will be uploaded again.
- Sat 2004 Feb 07: Added the Ad Hoc Singers' 2004/Feb/04 rehearsal page
with MP3s of Josquin's Missa Pange Lingua.
- Fri 2004 Feb 06: Added links to the churches mentioned on the Ad Hoc Singers page.

on NetSnapShot.com to the mention of the CCC on my home page.
- Tue 2004 Feb 03: Hear the Renaissance version of the
Family Guy theme from the
Mr. Saturday Night episode.
- Mon 2004 Feb 02: Created a makefile to automate
rebuilding html files created from plaintext files and uploading changes.
- Mon 2004 Feb 02: Verified my friends' links; removed dead links.
Set up a page of other interesting links.
- Mon 2004 Feb 02: Added links to the bottom of the
ReplayTV contents page.
