Welcome to Bob & Judy's video page

Below are links to some videos that I have made over the years. All are in Windows Media Video format and some have been reduced in size by saving them at around 512 Kbps from their original 2.1 Kbps. Others are at higher bit rates up to 2.1 Kbps, depending on how big the particular video turns out to be.

This section is meant for broadband (cable, DSL, FIOS, etc) as the files are all pretty big in size. They range from under 1 megabyte to several megabytes and most have to do with our varous pets over the years. Clicking on any of the links should stream the video in your default media player. If you are unlucky enough to only have dialup they should still work but will take a lot longer to start running and may stop and start as the stream downloads.

If you have a high speed connection, it'll only take a very few seconds to download each video. If you should want to save any of the videos locally, to your hard drive, just right click one of the links and choose 'save target as' and click ok and it'll save to your hard drive. Just be sure and remember where you saved it..:-)

I plan on adding quite a few videos so check back often to see how it's going.

On January 20th, there was this Don Polec humor piece about why birds have more of a tendency to fly into windows in the middle of winter (4.5 megabytes).

On January 8th, they had this piece on Action News about a frog from India that sounds like a chicken when it croaks (2 megabytes).

Frog that clucks like a chicken.

Our newest froglet, a white one that JuJu named 'Tony'arrived on 8/6/2008. I left it in a separate container, with the containers facing each other and then put them both into the same habitat on the 7th. They seem to be getting along well, but are very competitive when it comes to eating. I took this quicktime video with the Panasonic FZ30. Quicktime isn't my favorite format, but it's the only movie format that Panasonic captures. It's not a problem for most of us in the PC world, since we have (or should have) either the free quicktime player, or another media player that will play the mp4 quicktime format. David is on the left and Toni (I renamed it with the i on the end since I believe it's a female, but we'll see in time..:-) is on the right. Both frogs are furiously shoveling the food into their mouths using their front legs (8.7 megabytes).

Today (7/28/2008) I noticed a male goldfinch eating out of the bird feeder that I have outside one of the dining room windows. There was also a male house finch and a female house finch fluttering about the feeders. I got out the Canon FS-100 camcorder (solid state, it uses SD and SDHC cards) and shot this 10 second video. The female house finch is in back and out of sight most of the time, but you can see her fly over to the left to the thistle feeder (2.6 megabytes).

Rusty caught a little ringed neck snake down in the cellar on 7/9/2008. I saw him playing with something in the morning in the dining room and when I investigated I found it was about a foot long juvenile ring necked snake. They are much like garter snakes and are harmless to humans. They eat mostly insects. For now I have it in a small plastic tub and have fed it small bits of food that I got for the froglet. The food is mostly dehydrated flys and the snake seems to like it. I'll probably keep it around for a few days and then let it go outside. This is a short video that I took with the Sony DV camcorder while I temporarily had the snake in the original tadpole container. You can see that it's very much alive with it's little tongue flicking out, 'tasting' the air. I had the infrared turned on at the time and you can see the reflection on the outside of the container walls. Note that there is nothing wrong with your sound card or speakers as this video has no soundtrack (3.2 megabytes).

Those of you who are NHRA drag racing fans will recognize the name of Scott Kalitta. He was the son of drag racing icon Conrad (Connie) Kalitta. Scott was in drag racing from 1982 and in fact won two NHRA season titles when he competed in top fuel (1994 and 1995). Yesterday, at Englishtown, NJ, he was making a run in his fuel funnycar during the 4th and last qualfying session. His car erupted in flames and he crashed into the big net and barrier at the end of the dragstrip and was killed. This is a video of that run, so it's not for the faint of heart (1.6 megabytes).

Rusty 'doing his thing' on June 1, 2008. He dearly loves to stalk those chickadees from his 'bird shelf'! This one's only 13 seconds long (3.2 megabytes).

My interest in science extends also to taking pictures and the like using my Omano microscope. This is one of a (very hungry) micro-animal that I took on June 13,2008. I used my Canon A630 digicam attached to the microscope via t-adapters to take this video.

From Channel 6 Action News on 5/9/2008 comes this short piece about a robin who keeps building her nest on top of the tire of an SUV. Every day the owner removes the nest so the vehicle can be driven, and every day the robin rebuilds her nest. She's pretty persistent!

Today I noticed that the ants were busy building a new horizontal tunnel in the ant farm. I took some video with the Sony camcorder, and didn't use any macro lens this time. This educational video shows you graphically how the ants cooperate with each other to get things done. Too bad OUR society can't do the same...

By the way, did you know that worker ants are always female? The only males in an ant colony are what are known as 'Princes', which are solely for reproductive purposes (fertilizing the queen ant). After a prince does his duty, he dies shortly thereafter. The ants supplied with an 'ant farm' are always just workers, so they can't reproduce and will die out in a few months to a year of so.

Ants making tunnels on 4/23/2008

I decided to try and get some 'macro' video of the ants in JuJu's ant farm with my Sony DCR-HC21 Digital camcorder. This camcorder has an excellent macro function and there's not even any need to turn on any such function. It just focuses really close when zoomed out to wide angle. I also handheld the Raynox macro lens for part of the video. Gets me up pretty close! This is just using the light from a small desk lamp with a 4 watt LED bulb in it, plus the overhead flourescent lights in the dining room.

Watch as this bloodhound wakes his owner and (apparently) bribes him to take him out on the trail. The dog even takes his owner breakfast in bed. But he has an ulterior motive, as you will see!

Caught this yesterday (2/25/2008) on Channel 6 news. Seems a 6 inch water main developed a leak underground and washed out a street up in Philly. See how drivers just 'bounce' over the sinkiing roadway until it finally collapses. Keep an eye open for the two guys warning people off towards the end and the surprise reaction of the one in the orange shirt as the pavement gives way practically under his feet!

2/25/2008 watch the street sink in front of your eyes!

Here's a video that I just took today (2/16/2008) with my Canon A630 digicam. I shot it in two parts and edited them using Windows Movie Maker 2 to create this one Windows media file. Early in the video, you can hear the magnetic dog door flapping back and forth as Princess comes in, then she appears in the next part of the video.

This is a video that I captured from channel 23 (New Jersey Public Television) on 2/13/2008. It shows Lorraine Kiefer (one of my 1962 Delsea classmates and recording secretary of our senior class) and her Triple Oaks Nursery in Franklinville, preparing for Valentine's day.

This is for you crab lovers. I saw this Don Polec piece on Friday's action news. This is a restaurant in Philly. These Alaskan king crabs are BIG and go for over $250 dollars EACH! They are fresh caught for this one particular restaurant, and flown in. Don Polec actually handles one briefly. I saved this one at 640 by 480 and 768KB/sec.

Many of you who used to live up this way will remember Hy Lit, who was a radio disc jockey during the late 50's and 60's. His main claim to fame was working on WIBG (known as 'wibbage', 990 on the AM dial). He passed away (11/17/2007) at the age of 73. He hadn't worked for several years, but many of us still fondly remember "Hy ski o'roony mcvaddy o'zoot". He was always very upbeat and was responsible for the Beatles Philly invasion! By the way, his real last name WAS Lit.. His work lives on at hylitradio.com

This is video I recorded 11/15/2007. It's a dog that was in the Animal Planet dog show. It's a Neopolitan Mastiff and this is the first time I've seen one of these. Sure is an ugly cuss, but a good guard dog!!

Here's Princess and Rusty on the dining room floor. Notice that Princess is laying on Rusty's tail, the tip of which is still swishing back and forth. Rusty finally came to accept the fact that Princess was going to be staying around a month or so before this...:-)

Here's Sally Rat on June 8, 2006. We left her cage door open and she came out and was stealing food from JuJu's (mostly) empty plate. She'd then scurry back into the cage, drop off her cargo, and return for some more. Near the end, she knocks over JuJu's water cup...:-)

Our dear departed Drusila used to get into bed with me for a little 'loving' for a short time when I first got into bed. Here she is on Jan. 31, 2006. She would do this for a few minutes, and then either curl up and go to sleep, or go to some other part of the house. She would only do this in the cooler months though. I've been told that this 'face rubbing' is really a method of marking their territory.

Rusty used to get into the strangest positions when he was sleeping. This was taken on June 3, 2005, while he was sleeping on the couch. Also, you'll see JuJu finishing up the dishes. Meanwhile Rusty is still sleeping on his back! He was just over a year old at the time.

This video is my first (and so far only) attempt at time lapse and stop motion animation (with a camcorder). I used my Sony digital8 camcorder with intervalometer and infrared remote to control the camcorder.

This is Rusty's mom (we named her Missie) and Rusty's 3 brothers nursing out front on 6/25/2004. Rusty was right in front of the door and you'll see him run out towards the others when I open the door slightly and let it shut again. Also, there is a black male that I named Uncle Blackie since I believe that him and Missie were brother and sister and probably dropped off together. Blackie was VERY wild and I could never get within 20 feet of him. The kittens were just under 2 months old at the time.

This video, taken 03/23/2005 (the day after they opened) shows the big electronic gas price sign at the new Wawa at Carll's Corner. I used various shutter speeds on the Sony camcorder to demonstrate the strobing of the LED lights on the sign.

3/23/2005 Wawa blinkin' lights (2956KB)

This is my favorite video. It shows Rusty and Ben the rat (our biggest rat ever) playing on 3/23/2005. Many wouldn't think that a cat and a rat would get along, but these two did pretty well! This video is almost 9 megabytes, but hey, if you have a good broadband connection like I do, it'll d/l in just a few seconds..:-)

Here we have Rusty when he was learning to go out and then in the cat door in July of 2005 when he was just over a year old (now replaced by a bigger dog door for Princess).

This is the day after the 'blizzard of 2003', when 4 mexicans happened to stop and dig me out for $50. I had the Buick parked out near the road. As you can see, they're digging furiously! Turns out that my left rear tire was cut by their furious digging and blew out later in the day. This was taken with my Casio 2900 digicam so there's no sound.

This is a video of the wild turkeys that used to come around shortly after they stocked them in this area. As you will see, they were very tame the first few years. They're a LOT wilder nowadays and won't come closer than 50 feet. JuJu is in this as is Toridog. Near the end is a shot of Whitey Rat, our 2nd rat. Whitey was very sweet and used to spend all day in that 'igloo' thing and loved to have his chin scratched. I still kept him in a 10 gallon aquarium when he wasn't on the table in the igloo. Nowadays I use a much bigger wire cage for the furry critters. Yeah, I know, the grass needed cutting!

This video was converted (badly I might add) from old super 8mm film. It was taken in 1966 when I was only 22 years old, the year before I went into the Army and I weighed under 130 lbs. It shows my dad clowning with a BIG liquor bottle, me with a cigarette lighter, and my attempt at stop motion animation and time lapse using my then current Canon super 8mm film camera. My dad was 64 years old at the time (only a year older than I am now, in early 2008)

1966 Dad, Me, and timelapse from super 8mm film (1600KB)

I converted this video from an animated GIF file that was 3.3 megabytes in size originally. I dropped it into windows movie maker and saved it as a 640 by 480 768Kbps video file. It is very short, and shows a guy walking across the street on the left. He thinks he is safe, but a PT Cruiser runs the red light and collides with a car that has a green light and that car flips and rolls and wipes out the poor guy crossing the street! Never assume that it's safe! The guy almost made it too. I don't know for sure what happened to the guy but I would say that he was killed by the car.

Man crossing the street hit by car. (732KB)

That's all for now folks, but keep your eyes peeled for ones I might add in the future.
Any new ones will normally appear at the top of this page.
