Inside, the guest corpse this year was Bubba.
A rat named Clarence kept Bubba company in his coffin.
I don't have any pictures of the complete lab set-up, but this was close to being finished.
The lab featured a frame holding a moving hand, a beating heart in a glass display,
a trapped head holding it's breath in an aquarium, and a snake in his own aquarium. An anatomical
chart of a hand hung on the wall. There were many bottles of colored liquid that glowed in black light, some of them bubbling.
There were bottles of all kinds of interesting things the kids enjoyed picking up: ghost sweat,
toe jam, tongue of toad, trail of snail, dried pus, dead man's fat, scabs, tendons, and others,
all in labeled bottles, some of them antique. There was a crawling hand, a glowing skull with a
snake coming out of it, a two-headed mini skeleton, and many body parts. The table also contained
doctor's and dentist's tools. Many things were covered in cob webs, and black lights were the only
lighting. Things really looked spooky at night.
On the floor next to the tables there was a coffin-sized box containing a spider. The spider was a bump-and-go, if he
ran into a wall he backed up and turned around. The littlest kids liked him.
Uncle Leroy, last year's corpse, fought off big rats all night.
This year's best scare was the electric chair. I built it last year but couldn't get
it to work Halloween night. This year it worked every time. The shaking and really loud banging
noise were generated by a drill, which shook the prisoner apart several times. Patti would pick out a Dad
when we had a crowd and tell him she had been waiting for a big, strong man to check and see if the
electocuted man was still breathing. Even though the Dad would know someting was coming, he would inch
up to the prisoner and finally touch him, not realizing what set him off was the remote control in
my hand. We had lots of screams and running, and a couple of Dads who admitted they were close
to a heart attack.
