After Saturday's State Finals, Yale claims All State athletes in four events. Aviram Campbell finished 5th in the 110-m hurdles, Cory Still finished 3rd in the discuss (setting a new school record in the process), and Iris Campbell finished 1st in the 200-m dash and 2nd in the 100-m hurdles. All three athletes turned in their career-best performances in their events en route to earning All-State status. Senior Cory Still was invited to represent Team Michigan in the upcomming Midwest Meet of Champions.

 

YALE QUALIFIES 7 for STATE FINALS

Yale boasts three Regional Champions and seven State Finals qualifiers after Friday’s Regional Meet at Algonac. Cory Still is the discus champion, and Iris Campbell is the champion in the 100-m hurdles and 200-m dash. Additionally, Chelsea Bischer qualified in the 400-m dash, Aviram Campbell qualified in the 110-m hurdles, and Josh Kutchen qualified in pole vault. Liz Wiczorek and Sara Taylor will join Bischer and Campbell as part of the 800-m relay team that also qualified.

 

THREE SCHOOL RECORDS BROKEN AT REGIONALS

Three new school records were set at Friday’s Regional Meet. Aviram Campbell set a new standard in the 110-m high hurdles at 14.7 seconds (becoming only the second athlete in school history to break 15 seconds) on his way to qualifying for the State Finals. Iris Campbell smashed the existing school record in the 100-m hurdles (15.1 s) with her regional-winning time of 14.4 seconds. She also broke her own school record in the 200-m dash with her time of 25.0 seconds. Finally, the 800-m relay team of Chelsea Bischer, Liz Wiczorek, Sara Taylor, and Iris Cambell set a new school record with their time of 1:48.5.

 

MEN AND WOMEN VICTORIOUS AGAINST ALMONT

Yale wrapped up the BWAC regular season with a home dual meet against Almont. Both the men and women earned wins to make their final BWAC records 5 - 2. Yale hosts the BWAC league meet next Tuesday (5/20/2008).

 

ANCHOR BAY ROTARY RELAYS

Yale traveled to Anchor Bay High School to compete in the Rotary Relays. Discus thrower Cory Still broke his own school record and established a new mark of 166 feet. His teammate Zach Long also broke the 150-foot barrier with his throw of 154'5".

 

YALE DEFEATS CAPAC IN BWAC DUAL

Capac recently traveled to Yale for a BWAC dual meet. The Yale teams both defeated Capac. Photos of the meet are available in the gallery. The men are now 2 - 0 and the women are now 1 - 1 in league competition.

 

BULLDOGS AT MSU

The Men's and Women's Varisty Track Teams began the 2008 season by traveling to the MSU Playmakers Invitational hosted by Michigan State University. Despite terrible weather limiting the athletes' preparation, Yale finished 1st in three events. Iris Campbell won both the 60-m hurdles and the high jump, while Aviram Campbell was the champion in the 60-m hurdles for the men. Complete meet results for men and women are available.
