Did you ever think about the farmer that grew the coffee you brewed for breakfast this morning? The current coffee prices are less than even the production costs for many farmers throughout the world and yet still the largest companies in the industry continue to make millions of dollars every year. With no money for labor during harvest, children are being pulled from schools, the most basic social services like health care and education are eroding, debts are skyrocketing and family lands are being sold at a fraction of their value to pay creditors. I’m working with the EcoTeach Foundation to help change that. We insist on Shade Grown practices and keep as much of the labor (roasting and bagging) as possible in Costa Rica to keep profits and jobs within the communities we work with. We look for environmental stewardship and socially conscious organizations like farmer cooperatives that assure health care, low interest loans, supplies and education to their members on health issues surrounding the use of pesticides and herbicides. Our partners provide organic alternatives and encourage their increased use wherever possible.

I'm selling coffee to help coffee farmers but also to earn money to vist Costa-Rica this spring with Eco-teach. It should be the adventure of my life! Becca's Coffee For a Cause comes direct to you from the farmers of the CoopeDota cooperative in Costa Rica. This area — known as the Tarazzú Region — is world famous for its superior coffee. Situated 5000-6000 feet above sea level, CoopeDota produces only the finest 100% Arabica coffee with 100% Strictly Hard Bean quality. Our medium roast allows the full flavor and body of this fine, single-origin coffee to be appreciated to its fullest. Let me know if you'd like Whole Bean or Ground. A one pound bag of coffee is $10.00. Four dollars from each bag goes back to farmer, one dollar goes to the Echo-Teach Foundation and five dollars goes toward my Eco-Teach trip to Costa-Rica this spring. The US consumes 20% of the world's coffee. We wield amazing power on the global stage by simply making responsible purchases and creating higher demand for responsibly and sustainably produced products. Now the choice is yours. Please consider buying our coffee. You may email me with your order or call me at (206)784-6703. I'd like to thank my brother, Garrett Wirta who built this website.
