Our day started at the Musicians' Village project - the brainchild of Branford Marsalis and Henry Connick, Jr.
130 or so of us gathered, listened to a safety lecture and other info, and then...
We split up into workgroups, and headed off to individual projects.

Our project homes were in the 9th Ward, one of the  areas of New Orleans hit hardest by the flooding of 2005.

We met the Habitat staffers - AmeriCorps volunteers.
Our main project was to rebuild the flooring system in the house -- apparently the previous group had installed the floor joists too far apart, and made other mistakes.  We had to tear almost all of it apart.

We pulled a LOT of nails.

Lunch break!
After lunch we were serenaded by a gospel choir that was visiting the church down the street.

Everyone got a hug from every member of the choir.
One of the homeowners -- who put in a lot of sweat equity that day! -- and staff.  Names?

_______, Ann, _______, _______, and Brittney.

The work group.
Cleaning up.
On the way back to the hotel, we passed by the remains of a housing project, now just acres of piles of rubble.
