Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. If you want to know the year, you have to write and ask. I am not ashamed of my age, but I am not just giving it away.
For those of you who know Chicago: On the west side, near Garfield Park. I graduated from Lane Tech in 1979 and headed off to college that fall. Haven't been back much since. Not that I don't like Chicago. It has many fine features: the Lake Shore, fine museums, Michael Jordan, deep dish pizza, Vienna Polish Sausages, etc.
However, it also has pretty lousy weather at times. I realized this due to the Christmas Holidays. When I visited my family. When it was dark and cold and hard to get around. And when I came home in the summer. When it was hot and muggy (although still better than Florida). I do heartily recommend visiting Chicago for the aforementioned reasons, but preferably May, June, September, or October.
Although, since I was in college in Boston, it's not like I was giving up good weather to go home.
After college I went to work for a non-profit in Washington, D.C. (Oh, to be young and idealistic again!) It was for a women in science organization. I thought that fit in well with my classes in History and Science. (You can probably guess that two of my favorite cable TV channels are Discovery Channel and The Learning Channel.)
That was about the time that personal computers was becoming useful and I decided I liked working with them. (Actually, I was looking for a good excuse not to go to Medical School. I regret not practicing medicine, but I don't regret not being a doctor.)
Somehow, on the path to information systems enlightenment, I decided to get a graduate business degree with an emphasis in Management Information Systems. When I was in college, I worked briefly for a law firm (as a clerk, ranking even below paralegal in the legal hierarchy). I got paid to learn that I definitely did NOT want to be a lawyer. In one of those ironic steps backwards we make as we age, I took out big loans to learn I did NOT want to be a CEO. I do not enjoy Accounting, Finance, or Marketing. CEOs are typically from one or the other.
I did enjoy Human Resources, but this does not work as you might question the wisdom in firing, whoops!, sorry, I mean restructuring a bunch of employees to make the financials look good. It also doesn't work to be from the Information Systems department because techie types tend to be a bit too logical, although the math background could be a help in calculating the odds at that big casino on Wall Street.
Sorry. I have this tendency to rant. Do I sound bitter? Well, I am really.
Where was I? Oh, yeah. Anyway, I have been working in a variety of computer jobs and have developed the skills that allow me to recognize a internet hoax when it is Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: Fwd: to me from helpful friends. This is why I am trying to see if anyone wants to buy my photos. (Very nice, very pretty. Cheap - sort of.)
It's for a good cause: getting me back to Colorado. (No you didn't miss the section on living in Colorado. I haven't written it.) Colorado is my spiritual home. And, my mommy lives there now, too.
