Bendix made two inboards based on the SMD and TMD power heads. Production started in 1939. These were available through early 1940. If you have one of these please contact me with the serial numbers so that we can determine how many were made.

Bendix Model SR
This model is based on the single cylinder model SMD. This example is serial number D303.
As you can read in the letter below the factory planned to have the inboard motors available by May 5th, 1939.
As you can see below the Bendix line was still available as of May 22nd, 1940. I do not know if these were left over 1939 motors or not. It appears that all motors built in Brooklyn had the letter D in the serial number. This correlates to 1939. If anyone has any further information please contact me. You can also determine that by the letterhead the distributer, Donald L. Guerin had switched over to Mercury from Bendix. To read all of these letters go to the Newsletter link on the main page.
This is the casting that adapts to the Joes Gearbox and provides for exhaust adaptation and mounting. A through the hull exhaust kit was available. Anyone have one or a picture to share?
ID Plate
Kill switch is located on the lower cowl as opposed to the tiller on the outboard
Shaft coupling appears to have never been wrenched on.
Notice makers name cast into gerbox, Joes Gear-302. If anyone has information on this gearbox that they would like to share please contact me.
Bottom view of model SR inboard.
It appears that the Joes gearbox was custom made for this application.
