2 - JOHN1, son of Donald MacBean of Scotland, b. before 1634 at Strathdearn, Invernesse-Shire, Scotland; came over on the "Sarah and John" to Boston, MA on 24 FEB 1652, with 271 other prisoners of war, captured by Oliver Cromwell at the Battle of Worcester, and sent sent to New England, betrayed by their own King Charles. Those that could not pay for the cost of the trip were sold into indentured servitude. John was probably sold to his future father-in-law Nicholas Lissen (auctioned off at Saugus House aka "Scotch House"); went to Exeter, NH to work ,with six others bought, at the saw mills on the Exeter and Oyster Rivers. John served less than three of the 6 to 8 years of his indenture; m. 1st 18 APR 1654 to Hannah Lissen in Exeter, NH; she died during the birth of Hannah2 in 1659 at Exeter, NH. John became partners with Nicholas Lissen in saw mills until 1660; received land grant in Exeter, NH in 1660; dealt in real estate development, farming, tanning; by 1708 had about 20 farms; was town pound keeper at one time; surveyed the boundaries between Dover and Exeter, NH to end a 25 yr old dispute; m. 2nd Margaret _______, b. 1640 in Scotland, came over as a 9-yr old orphan in 1652, an indentured servant, free by 1660, and d. 1714, before 15 NOV 1660 at Exeter, NH; both wives buried at Congregational Church Yard (known as The Old Meeting House Yard) in Exeter, NH; John d. between 24 JAN 1718 and 8 FEB 1718 at Exeter, NH; buried with his wives.
