1 - WILLIAM HERSEY1 (E-2)of Hingham, son of NATHANIEL HERCY (E-1), was the first Hersey to settle America. Born 1596, at Reading, Berkshire Co., William married in England before 1616 to ________?; married 2nd to Elizabeth CROADE before 1632, who was probably the mother of his last six children. William came over to New England in 1636 accompanied by children: William2, Frances2, Elizabeth2, and Judith2, and settled in Hingham MA. He was granted 5 acres on 3 JUL 1636, on what is now South St. in Hingham. He became a Freeman in March 1638; a Selectman in 1642, 1647, and 1650; member of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company in 1652. He died in Hingham on 22 MAR 1658.
William is listed in Pioneers of Massachusetts, by Pope, as a husbandman; a proprietor in 1636; on the Court Commission of Valuation in 1640; and town officer. When his estate was appraised after his death, it was valued at 409 pounds, 13 shillings, 6 pence. His will mentioned wife Elizabeth; children William, John, James, Frances, Elizabeth and Judith; grandchildren John Croade and William Hersie; overseers and cousins John Farrington and Thomas Marsh; and his son-in-law Richard Croade. His wife Elizabeth died in Hingham on 8 OCT 1671, her will probated 25 AUG 1671, and left her estate to children William, John, James, Frances Croade, Judith Wilson, and Elizabeth Gilman.

Hammond , A.M., 1885, Concord, NH, as member of Captain Samuel McConnell's Co., in "A Muster & pay Roll of the bounty and travelling Money of the Men rased muster'd & Paid by Col. Daniel Moor out of his Regiment to March to New York agreeable to a late requisition of the 26th Day of September AD 1776". In this payroll he is listed as Ichabod Hersee paid - Advance wages & bounty = 6 pounds, Travel pay 2 d per mile = 2 pounds 5 shillings, Sum total = 8.5 (8 pounds, 5 shillings).
Ichabod shows up in two entries for Baldwin's New Hampshire Regiment in:

Ichabod can be found in the U.S. Census of 1800, living in Acworth, Sullivan Co., NH (page 7) as: 1 male between 10-16 yrs, 1 male between 16-26 yrs, and two females between 10-16 yrs. Either this is a different Ichabod, or it is incorrect as he would have been 48 yrs old. He can also be found in the U.S. Census of 1810 (page 262), living in Wendell, Cheshire Co., NH, as: 1 male age 45 and up, and one female between 16-26 yrs.
Ichabod married 2nd to Martha Cops on 16AUG 1792 at Newbury, NH. He died in 1841 at Sunapee, NH at age 89.

These records also show a receipt for 1 dollar from a man for building Ichabod Hersey's casket. Stephen d. ca 1870 at Grantham, NH, buried in Old Town Cemetery, North Grantham, NH.

Savage, Minister, of Lowell. After returning to NH, between 1854 and 1857, he returned to farming. He lived at home as late as age 18, according to the U.S. Census of 1840. Lived in the 1880 Census as living in Plainfield, NH, age 57, a farmer. Stephen7 died on 20 NOV 1900 at Lebanon, NH. He was living in Plainfield until a few weeks prior to his death. Cause of death is listed as "cancer of face", which he had had for four years, and "old age", at age 78. He was buried by H.J. Dunn, Undertaker, P.O. White River Junction, VT, at Gleason Cemetery in Meriden, NH.

Either Charles8 or his father Stephen7 Jr. managed Corbin's Animal Park in Cornish, NH, at one time, according to family tradition. No evidence has been found to corroborate this. Charles died on 30 JUL 1957 at 12:25 a.m., at Hillsboro, NH, after suffering for "years" of ateriosclerotic heart disease; with cause of death listed as congestive heart failure, which e endured for three weeks. He died at home, and was buried 26 JUL 1957 at Gleason Cemetery, Meriden, NH by Phillip J. Woodbury of Hillsboro, NH.
