SECTION II -

THE NEW ENGLAND BRANCHES

NATHAN LOVEJOY5

29 - NATHAN 5, son of Nathan 4, b. 20 NOV 1749 at Tewksbury, MA; m. Mary (Mollie) Boynton of Newbury, MA; see family (c), on 6 MAY 1773 at South Church, Andover, MA. Bans had been published in Andover 8 APR 1773. Mary became a member of the South Church of Andover 13 OCT 1776.

Nathan will be shown living in Andover, but also lived in Danvers, Cambridge or Salem, MA. His sons, Nathan 6 and David 6 migrated to NH. Nathan's 5 signature is one of eleven in a petition to the State of New Hampshire on 25 MAY 1790. The petition was an attempt by the inhabitants of Lyndeborough Gore to become incorporated into a "body Politic" or town. The reason for this request was that they wanted to enjoy the same privileges as other towns, considering that they were a total of forty-one people, and were not within easy reach of another town.

According to the inhabitants, living between Lyndeborough and Peterborough, they were "seven miles or upward from Lyndeborough meeting House, and in Addition to the Badness of Travel generally Attending New Settlements we have to Cross the Petit Manadinack in to Attend Public worship--that we have not power to raise any money for laying out and repairing highways or Schooling our Children--that public Instruction in the great duties of life and the education of our Children we Esteem as a duty and Privilege, and think it of great importance either in a Religious or political View, which we are by our local Situation deprived of, and must so remain or quit our habitation unless relayed by the Honble General Court...".

Nathan died in Claremont, NH on 20 MAR 1873. He may have moved there with his wife, after his sons.
