52 - JEREMIAH RUSSEL7, changed his name in 1833 to RUSSELL while a resident of Claremont, b. 1815 in Salem, MA; m. Mary Marshall, b. 1813 in NH, on 21 DEC 1843 in Unity, NH. In his mother's will, dated 1852.
He appears in the 1850 Census at Claremont , occupation - house carpenter, age 35, , and in the 1860 Census age 45 , a House Joiner. The 1860 Census shows he had wife Mary, age 36, daughter Mary, age 14 , son Erastus, age 10, b. in NH, and a Joel Marshall, age 66, a laborer, b. in NH, all living with him in Claremont. His home is listed near his brother Austin's dwelling, valued at $250. Russell is not found in the 1870 Census. His son is Erastus is listed with another family.
His Certificate of Disability for Discharge from the Army of the United States (Civil War) shows the following: He had enlisted as a Private in Captain Charles H. Long's Company G of the 5th NH Regiment of the U.S. Volunteers, at Claremont, NH; signed in by Capt. Long on 16 SEP 1861 to serve for three years. According to the discharge papers, he was b. in Salem, MA. At date of discharge, he was 42 yrs. old, 5'6" tall, with dark complexion, blue eyes, black hair, occupation - carpenter. During the last two months of service, he was classified as "unfit for duty" for 61 days. Station of discharge - Convalescent Camp - Alexandria, VA - dated 5 FEB 1863. Included in his discharge papers - "I certify that I have carefully examined the said Russell Lovejoy of Capt. Long's Co., and find him incapable of performing the duties of a soldier because of: Inguinal hernia of left side, contracted in service - Disability 1/2. Discharged this thirteenth day of Feb. 1863 at Convalescent Camp, Va."
Records of the Union Church of Claremont list Russell's death as 1 MAR 1877, at 67 yrs. A Mrs. Marcy Lovejoy listed in the church records is probably Russell's wife, Mary. Mary died 21 SEP 1876 at age 56 in Claremont.

62 - LUTHIRA/LUTHERA8, a dau. b. 1849/50 in NH; listed in 1850 Census as five months old; she is not listed in 1860 Census, so may have died between 1850 and 1860.

63 - Unknown8, a son b. 1854; d. 24 SEP 1855 at 1 yr.
54 - JOHN EUGENE7, son of Nathan6, b. JUL 1819 at either Salem, Salem Village (i.e. Danvers), MA; Unity or Claremont, NH. He was most likely born at Danvers, MA. His listing in three U.S. Censuses suggest this. The record of his second marriage shows his birth in Claremont. The birth record of his son, Edgar E., indicates that John E.7 was born in Windsor, VT; while dau. Jennie's indicates MA. The marriage record of son Charles E. lists John E.'s birthplace as Salem, MA; while Edgar's shows Unity, NH. Considering that his brother Russell is reported born in Salem, MA, in his discharge from the Union Army, and that his father married in Danvers, MA, where mother Abigail had been living with her family, it seem most probable that at least several of Nathan's6 children, including, John Eugene7, were born in Danvers.
John m.1 Abigail ? , who was born 1823 in VT. Abigail may have died before 1897, no records of this marriage or her death can be found in NH or VT. It is possible that John and Abigail were divorced as a divorce record exists for Abigail Lovejoy, listing her as the plaintiff, in the Maine Court Records, 1696-1854, registered at Gardiner, ME at the Kennebec County Supreme Judicial Court on OCT 1848 (Record Location: 113-17, Volume and Page: 13-18-9160) John married for a second time to Ellen Maria Deane, see family (a), 5 FEB 1857 at Unity, NH; he d. 26 OCT 1898 at Claremont, of nephritis; buried at Pleasant Street Cemetery, Section F, Lot 35.
The census records show the following information on John Eugene Lovejoy and his family. In 1850, John E. and wife Abigail lived at Unity, NH, with their three daughters. Their house was valued at $400.00. His occupation is listed as farmer.
In 1860, he is listed as Eugene, with wife Ellen M., three daughters (same as in 1850), and a year-old daughter, Clara H. At this time, the family was living on the farm of 52-year old George Glidden in Claremont . The census of 1870 shows John E. and Ellen M. with four children. The eldest daughters were no longer at home and John had sired three more children. He is listed as a farm laborer, with no real estate and personal property worth $250.00. They were living in a home, that was perhaps rented, in Claremont.
The 1880 census shows them living in their own home with four children. Son Charles had been born just after the last census and daughter Jennie is shown below. John and Edgar are listed as day laborers.
Daughter Jennie is listed separately, at age 18, as a boarder in Claremont. Working in a millinery shop, she is shown living with the family of Eathau Ballou, a retired farmer.
The Claremont City Directories for 1887, 1893 and 1894 list John E. as Eugene, a farmer, living in a house opposite PO West Claremont; in 1896 - listed as John E., retired farmer (same address as above), however, his wife Ellen is also listed, with an advertisement for a boarding house on Main Street, West Claremont. In 1899, the city directory shows Ellen as a widow, living on Windsor Road, Claremont; and in 1911 she had a house on Old Plains Road, West Claremont. The boarding house discussed above may have once been a tavern begun by her father, Horace Deane, in the early days of Claremont, see family (a).
John's obituary, in The National Eagle of Claremont, on 29 OCT 1898 said only, under a section entitled DEATHS: "In Claremont Oct 26, John E. Lovejoy, aged 79 yrs. 4 mos. Funeral Sunday 2 p.m. at house in West Claremont, near high bridge." See family (a) for a lengthy obituary on Ellen.
Ellen died at her home at West Claremont on Wednesday, 30 SEP 1914. She had suffered a severe shock two days before. She had married John when she was 15, she from North Charlestown and he from Unity, NH. They soon moved to Claremont. Her obituary, lists her surviving children as follows: a daughter; Edward Lovejoy, foreman at Jarvis Paper Mill at West Claremont; Charles Lovejoy of St. Johnsbury, VT; and another son, a resident of Bellows Falls, VT (Cecil E. lived in Bellows Falls). Edward is undoubtedly Edgar, as he is listed that way in an issue of the Claremont City Directory, and the only son to remain in Claremont.
Whereas John's three daughters were by his first wife, and Ellen's daughters Clara, Jennie and Caroline were already dead, the daughter listed above was Lillian H., as show by Ellen's probate records.
No probate records have been found for John Eugene, however these records have been found for Ellen Maria, his wife, and are shown under family (a). Lillian H. Lovejoy administered her mother's estate. Edgar E. and Charles are listed as her heirs. She left no will.

71 - CAROLINE E.8, b. 1866; m. Emery W. Henry; her tombstone shows her death as 21 JAN 1886 (at 43 y. 10 m. 28 d.), however, Carrie/Carrie E. is listed as a daughter of John in 1870 census, and as being four years old. In 1880 census, she is shown as four years old. It seen that either the age on the tombstone is wrong or this is not the same woman. Considering that she is buried in the same lot as her parents and sister Hattie, it is probable that the date on the stone is wrong. She was either age 20 when she died, or she died much later.
72 -CHARLES E.8, b. 28 JUN 1871 at Unity, NH; m. Addie L. Farr on 12 FB 1895 at Claremont.
