5 - JOHN1 (POOLE), b. England; m.1 to Judith ? , m.2 to Margaret ? ; settled Cambridge, MA about 1633; resided in Lynn, where he was a proprietor before 1638. He was a witness in case in Essex Court 27 APR 1637. Appears before the General Court 4 OCT 1638. Moved to Reading, where he made a contract with the town in 1644 to build a dam, turn the course of a stream and erect and maintain a water mill for the use of the inhabitants; lst wife Judith was a member of church in Reading 1648; proprietor; town officer in Reading; lawsuit about his mill in 1652; his servant John England in court 1637; Margaret sold land and house in 1653; he died 1 DEC 1667 at Reading. In his will dated 14 DEC 1666, he bequeathed to son Jonathan; daughter Mary, wife of Matthew Edwards; son-in-law William Barrett; grandchildren John & Lydia Barrett, Marey, Sarah and Elizebeth Edwards; to brother and sister Amitage and their children; cousin Godfrey A.; and Mrs. Dane of Andover.
