Judith R. Porter

Judith Porter has been a faculty member at Bryn Mawr College since 1966.  She is currently Research Professor of Sociology, having retired from full time teaching in 1966. She received a BA and MA from Cornell University and a PhD from Harvard University.  Her current research focuses on AIDS prevention, especially on the relationship between AIDS risk behaviors and substance abuse.  She has made presentations on her research at the International AIDS Conferences since 1992 . 

She  serves as the Vice-Chairperson of the Mayors’ Executive Commission on Drugs and Alcohol of the City of Philadelphia, and is on the Board of Directors of  the Philadelphia Committee to End Homelessness and Women Against Abuse.  She volunteers as an AIDS educator in Philadelphia for Congreso de Latinos Unidos and as a food stamp pre-screener for the Greater Philadelphia Coalition Against Hunger.
