The traffic in Bali is mind-boggling and unless you really enjoy getting
completely lost, worrying about running over someone on a motorcycle or
getting stopped by the police, it makes total sense to spend a few extra
dollars and hire a driver. If you just try to hire taxis, you spend all
of your time trying to find one whose driver speaks english, knows exactly
where you want to go, and not knowing if you can trust them. And it would
probably end up costing you more at the end of the day!!!!

Service Charges
Like many drivers, Dean operates on a flat daily charge, but don't
let that concern you; If you haven't gathered by now, he is very fair
and reasonable.
I remember using his service for only two and a bit hours one day and
it didn't feel right paying for the whole day. But a couple days later,
I ended up feeling guilty because he wouldn't have gotten home before
the sun came up.
The current rate is 40 US$ (alittle more than 400.000 Rupiahs) per
day.
I've heard of drivers who hit you for 'hidden extras' the end of the
day claiming parking, extra fuel or excess kilometers or hours etc.
Neither I or any of my friends who have used Dean have been approached
for any 'extras'. He has always paid parking and other misc small fees
himself.
I will mention that you can save about $1 (or US 75 cents) per hour
using the majority of other drivers. On one day, I had to use another
driver because Dean was previously booked and after two hours I ended
up demanding to be taken back to the hotel and had to do so several
times before he would do so. Naturally he demanded full payment. Seriously,
it would take a full web page to tell what went wrong in just the two
hours. What annoyed me the most was that it wasted half a day near the
end of my holiday, where I needed it the most.
