This page is a resource for the December 2008 Lancaster County Apple Corps meeting. It is a sampling of how to obtain books online.

You'll need a library card to download books from the Library System of Lancaster County. They have many online resources listed on the left side of that page. The browse your digital library online link is the one you need to get the online books. There are other resources there including an online book club (a few chapters a week), TumbleBooks (online, animated, and audio books for kids), homework help, Morningstar Investment Research Center, and various references. Some of these require your library card number for access.

The OverDrive Media Console software is used by many library systems around the country and world. The Mac version handles only MP3 books.

Google Book Search has books you can read online. Some you can download. Some are just partial previews. But many of these are public domain and freely downloadable. After you search, change the pop-up from limited preview and full view to full view to see books available in their entirety. Many of these can be downloaded as PDF files for reading off-line. But online, many of the pages have links and an easier searching mechanism. It's great for finding a section you've heard in an audio-book or discussion. About this book has additional references and information.

Safari Books Online provides a shelf of technical books for computing professionals for a monthly fee. I include it here as an example. It's also a place to browse contents before purchasing.
