| This is the sixth year that Sarah Weeks has mentored my Title 1 students for a writing project. This year Sarah and I will be developing the writing skills of a group of fourth graders. They will work on this writing each Friday in a small group setting. They are following the same procedure established with the first author-in-residence program. They begin with an introductory letter via the Internet followed by a list of ideas for their story. Ms. Weeks replies to their ideas and sends along suggestions for them to implement when writing their first draft. The students will send their first draft and again she will offer constructive criticism of their work. When the suggestions are received from our author I conference with each of the students to help them to improve their story. This process will continue until the students are taken through the entire writing process. |
