Old-Style Siamese Breeders List

The following breeders are members of PREOSSIA in good standing. PREOSSIA strongly encourages breeders to abide by an extensive set of guidelines for ethical and humane breeding of cats that is known as the PREOSSIA Code of Ethics. We believe that the breeders listed here are honest breeders. Nonetheless, PREOSSIA is not financially or otherwise responsible for the outcome of any transaction you may undertake with any of the individuals or catteries listed below.

However, we wish to be informed if you think a breeder whose cattery is listed here has violated our ethical breeding guidelines. Breeders should all use sales contracts describing rights and responsibilities of breeder and purchaser, should provide registration papers from a registry respected by the majority of the world's cat fanciers (CFA, TICA, ACFA, CFF, ACA, CCA, GCCF, FIFe, or one of the respected independent continental European registries, e.g., LOOF in France, Neocat in the Netherlands),* should provide at least a three generation pedigree for every kitten, should provide at least one FVRCP ("3-way") vaccination for each kitten (preferably two), and should never sell or place a feline that has any kind of known medical or significant behavioral problem without prior disclosure to, and consent by, the purchaser.

PREOSSIA does not now charge, and never has charged, any kind of fee to breeders for being listed on this page. Although PREOSSIA does not charge any kind of listing fee, PREOSSIA is selective about what breeders are allowed on the PREOSSIA Breeders List. Breeders must be members of the club for at least six months, so that we have a chance to get to know them before we list them, and they must demonstrate a willingness to altruistically work with other club members in spreading the word about Old-Style Siamese, supporting a common definition of the breed, and preserving the breed in good condition for posterity. PREOSSIA breeders are expected to be not-for-profit breeders—to breed with the welfare of the entire breed as their top priority.

FOOTNOTES

* Many small operations sell registration papers for cats that are not considered acceptable registries by most of the global cat fancy. They are not acceptable because they do not have reciprocity agreements with the world's major registries (papers are not transferrable to other registries) and in many cases they are mere privately owned businesses that provide papers to anyone and anything for the right price. Be careful. Make sure kittens you intend to buy are registered with a respectable registry. Purebred Old-Style Siamese should be able to qualify for registration in a major, respected registry (CFA, TICA, ACFA, ACA, GCCF, FIFe, or one of the well respected continental European registries)—and it is registration papers from one of the major registries that an ethical breeder should provide with a kitten when the kitten changes owners. If a breeder does not register with a major registry, the descendants of that breeder's cats are not likely to be considered purebred and bred by future generations of breeders. It is PREOSSIA's view that good breeders should breed for the survival of their breed, not for personal or profit-related reasons. Therefore, if a breeder listed on this page sells kittens with registration papers from some source other than CFA, TICA, ACFA, CFF, ACA, CCA, GCCF, FIFe, or one of the respected continental European registries (e.g., LOOF, RVDE, or Neocat), PREOSSIA would like to be informed. Breeders listed on the PREOSSIA Web site should be registering only with the registries listed here. This footnote is intended only to explain the rules that apply to breeders listed on the PREOSSIA Web site. PREOSSIA does not operate a registry, nor does PREOSSIA earn any kind of revenue for endorsing the world's major cat registries. PREOSSIA's recommendations are consistent with accepted practice in most of the global cat fancy. This is something that individuals may confirm for themselves by talking to a variety of cat fanciers on cat fancy listservs and cat fancy sites all over the Web.
