Barbara and Frank
What we do for fun
We both love the oudoors and try to spend as much of our free time as possible in nature. Hiking is our favorite way to enjoy the local mountains during the summer months and into early fall. In the winter, We enjoy snowshoeing, cross-country and downhill skiing. The close-by Boulder Mountain Parks and the Front Range (including the Indian Peaks Wilderness and Rocky Mountain National Park), all within about 1 hour by car provide plenty of opportunity for day hikes as well as multi-day trips. Since we (almost) never leave home without a camera we have started to put together some short trail descriptions and pictures for our favorite local outings as well as some photos and reports from trips to places outside our immediate neighborhood. To stay within the web-space limits we will only show one or two of them at a time and change them whenever we find time. Go to our hikes page for local hikes and trips and our travel page for pictures from other places around Colorado and the rest of the world.
Frank works at the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR).
Check out Frank's personal page
at NCAR if you are interested in atmospheric science and related
environmental research. NCAR is situated on a mesa in the foothills at
about 6000 ft elevation above the city of Boulder, Colorado and the building is an
architectural masterpiece that was designed in the late 50s by I.M.
Pei. NCAR is well worth visiting - you'll like the science exhibits,
the Walter-Orr-Roberts weather trail behind the building and - for the
somewhat more ambitious - the access to the Boulder Mountain Parks
trail system. The building is open to the public and there are guided tours
available for groups. Try the NCAR home
page
if you'd like to find out more.
Barbara works at the International English Center (IEC) at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She teaches English to foreign students and prepares them for
their studies at CU or elsewhere. For many of them she is one of the
first contacts in the United States and acts as a mentor and
information resource at the same time.
