Here is a quote from the news:
"The high court refused to endorse the White House claim of authority to seize and detain terrorism suspects and indefinitely deny access to courts or lawyers while interrogating them. Monday's rulings in a trio of cases dealing with the rights of prisoners mean that detainees, whether potential terrorist threats or victims of circumstance, have greater rights to challenge their captivity in U.S. courts and force the government to explain itself."
Explain to me how blame can be put upon the Bush Administration for not acting on terrorism and allowing 9/11 to happen and then turn around and make this decision. Are they all on crack or what?
A teenage boy was savagely hunted down and beaten to death by other teenagers with baseball bats. Several people witnessed some ot the trouble and phoned 9-1-1. The police arrived on the scene after the teens had bashed this poor boy's skull in. One of the teens, the one most responsible for the boy's death, was given an 18 month sentence behind bars. In my opinion, it was an extremely short and unjust sentence for what these boys did to another human being.
My belief is that the jurors were swayed to give these boys minor punishments because of all the publicity surrounding the 9-1-1 calls. The news media and the public placed blame on the slow reaction time of those 9-1-1 dispatchers and the police to arrive on the scene in time to save the boy. I'm not saying that the 9-1-1 people and the police are totally blameless. Maybe the police could have arrived in time to save the boy, but the fact remains that the ones holding the baseball bats were to blame. They should have been tried as adults and should have received the maximum sentence for their crimes.
The people watching from their windows, the ones that called 9-1-1, may have been able to do something as well. They could have diverted attention by making a commotion to stop what was happening, or delay it until help arrived. Didn't any of these people own a, dare I say it, gun? Not to shoot the murderers, just to scare them away perhaps.
The point is that I think most of us are having a hard time believing that some people can take human lives without remorse. We can't always be looking for some other reason simply because we don't understand the mind of a murderer. How could anyone predict the actions of the 19 hijackers on 9/11? How can we wrap our minds around the fact that there are some people who have so much hatred, they're willing to do anything?
As humans, we go looking for someone else to blame because we can't comprehend that such dark and evil people are living among us. We have to make someone else pay for what has happened. It goes on all the time and it is wrong, because it takes the blame away from the ones truly responsible.
I think that Rice, Rumsfeld, Powell, and President Bush have more important things to do than to spend weeks satisfying our consciences and easing our pain. Those 19 hijackers walked among us in this country plotting the deaths of 1,000's in a way no one could have predicted.
They will waste time now. Rice will blame it on the FBI and the CIA. The FBI and the CIA will blame it on Rumsfeld and Powell. Rumsfeld and Powell will blame it on the President, and so forth and so on.
Let's concentrate on more important things, like healing those family members who lost loved ones in the World Trade Center buildings that day. Let's think about our service men and women over in Iraq. Blaming President Bush for 9/11 won't bring back those lost.
Take the money it is costing us to pay for the assembling of the Committee, and give it to the families of the victims of the September 11th tragedy. Give it to the family members of our US troops. Money won't solve all of their problems, but it would be going to a worthier cause than a witch hunt.
After watching President Bush's press conference last night, I am convinced that irresponsible journalism is to blame for the frustration and confusion Americans are experiencing regarding the war in Iraq and the events of September 11th. In a story on the ABC News website, they state: "Asked whether he felt any responsibility for the attack, Bush said he grieved for the families of the victims and said in retrospect he wished, for example, the Homeland Security Department had been in place." The actual question asked by a reporter who should be out of a job today, asked: "Do you feel PERSONALLY responsible for the attack on 9/11?"
Was FDR PERSONALLY responsible for the spineless acts of terrorism on December 7, 1941? Was President George Washington personally responsible for the attack on the minutemen?
Television news and its reporters have done more harm than good for our veterans who fight for the freedom of speech that is abused every day. The news is distorted, falsely reported, and the public is loving every minute of it. They can't get enough. That is why these media hounds will always have something to report on. They don't care if the report is accurate, the truth, or whether it helps or hurts anyone. They all just want to be the first to report it. I hate what Bill O'Reilly calls the 'elite' media. I only watch the news on Fox or MSNBC now.
The news media people are the ones trying to turn Operation Iraqi Freedom into another Vietnam War. In the process, they will turn some of the public into the people who threw things at, and spit on, Vietnam Veterans upon their return from the war.
I didn't hear anyone ask President Bush last night how the families of the men and women fighting in Iraq are doing. I didn't hear any reporter ask what effect the 9/11 Committe is having on the family members of those lost at the World Trade Center. All I heard was the same question over and over again, worded differently. They all asked about his reelection campaign and what effect his 'staying the course' in Iraq has on his chances. They all asked about 9/11. They don't care about the thousands who lost their lives that day. They don't care about the troops in Iraq. They care about becoming a famous journalist for asking the question that incites people to riot. They ask questions that have nothing to do with the whole point of President Bush's press conference last night. For the few of us who wanted to hear what progress the troops are making in freeing Iraq, the quesitons were answered, without any help from the reporters.
I would have been happier if President Bush would have made his statement, which took about thirty minutes, and then I would have like to have been able to watch '24' on Fox. I didn't need to hear the reporters' questions. Their questions didn't help anyone.
News programs continue to fuel the fire created by anti-war protesters. The actions of reporters and the anti-war protesters are a slap in the face to our troops in Iraq. They do nothing for the morale of the men and women over there. They do nothing for me. They do nothing for America. They only do what is best for their careers. They will only harm us by dividing us.
We should be extremely careful when we watch and listen to the news. We should do our own investigating to get to the truth. Or we should only watch people who report the facts; no BS and double-talk, no lies, just the facts. That's what most of us want, but will probably never get.
Like the 1969 blockbuster hit by the Fifth Dimension, 'Aquarius', says:
"Harmony and understanding
Sympathy and trust abounding
No more falsehoods or derisions
Golden living dreams of visions
Mystic crystal revelation
And the mind's true liberation"
To me, at the age of 14, it meant not listening to what they were saying about the Vietnam War and the Vietnam Veterans. It meant that one day, peace would come to Vietnam, and our boys would be home.
Or, like everyone says, the song was about drugs. :)
This page is dedicated to the POW/MIA's from the Vietnam War who are from my hometown. These brave heroes never came home and their bodies were never recovered. Where are they? Don't they deserve to be buried on American soil? I have 'adopted' these men and the pages will remain until they all come home.
This page includes the names of all the men on the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Wall. I also included the inscription that appears on the wall in Penns Landing. Philadelphia is a large city, but there are just too many names on that wall. They sacrificed their own lives for freedom. This is my way of honoring them.
My tribute to the greatest country in the world, and to the heroes who fight for its freedom everyday. I am proud to be an American, and I am extremely proud of my fellow Americans who put their lives on the line fearlessly and selflessly, every day, to make America what it is.
My meager attempt and tribute to our Vietnam Veterans. This page serves as the welcome home they never received, but deserved at the end of the Vietnam War.
My favorite baseball team, that just happens to be the best baseball team of all time!
The joys and the woes of the toughest job in the world, the job of being a parent!
My concern for the many homeless animals in shelters that desperately need a family to call their own.
My interest in NASA and the early manned space flights.
I have even had a few articles published. Are you a writer? Perhaps we can share some ideas.
What can I say about this group of sniveling, whining pansies? Plenty! I despise them as mush as the sign-carrying clowns from the 60's. I have some suggestions for these people.
This is a page for the people who are sick of being politically correct. It is also for people, like myself, who are tired of being blamed for all of the woes of the world. Have you offended someone today? I'm sure I have!
Who's to Blame for 9/11? How about the homicidal psychopaths who flew planes into the Twin Towers? Shame on the 9/11 Commission!
In the Pledge, on our money, and outside the courthouses. Funny that now on television, they can say any filthy, obscene word they want, but we can't say God in school or in the courthouse. Please!
I hate this man. His documentaries are edited and distorted solely for the purpose of making money and feeding his face. He is a loud-mouth nothing and I wish he would just go away
Here are some other things I'd like to see banned.
Growing up with an alcoholic father, I can't help thinking how these commercials send the wrong message. It makes people think it's cool to act stupid and so I have a few ideas for some ads I would like to see the beer distributors show to the public.
This is a brand new page I started, just for fun. This is a page I put up after the 3rd season finale of American Idol!
